Hi all, I challenged my rent increase (8%) and the arbitration board has invited me and the landlord for a meeting on 27th March at 9 am. I can speak only A2 level German and hope somebody could accompany me to this discussion. Have you attended any such meetings and/or know of someone who could join me? It’s a very simple discussion, and I want to just go through with it regardless of the outcome, since I invited it. Thanks.
Just some advice: have all your facts and evidence to hand. Think what facts you want to bring forward. Have evidence to support them. Good luck!
Thank you! it was pretty easy. I managed with my German and got a decrease in rent too!
Hello,
Can you give more information about what the conciliation office asked you during the meeting and how did you manage to get your rent decreased?
I am in a similar situation and I have the meeting this week. The landlord increased my rent with 6% (3% for the interest rate increase by 0.25, and another 3% due to inflation). Furthermore, on the last 3 years the landlord never offered to decrease my rent when the interest rate was lover than the one in my contract. Was your situation similar?
Can you elaborate on the documents I should take with me?
Do you know if there is any possibility to speak English there? I know that the form from other cantons has a field for asking for a translator.
Thank you.
You sound unprepared. Read everything on the topic on the Mieterverband website. I assume the reference rate claim is clear cut. Inflation can only be passed through 40%, so I suggest you go through the documentation your landlord has sent you and search for holes.
It’s not up the landlord to offer a rent decrease when you are entitled to it. You need to ask for it. They cannot refuse. But them not offering it is legit, perhaps not ethic but legal.
