First of all let me say that I read this forum and it has been the best source of info on anything regarding expats in Switzerland, Thanks!
I would like to buy a car and as we all know prices here are insane compared to what you can pay in Germany. So my idea is to hop-off to Germany and buy a car there and register it here. Most likely new from an official dealer. I am aware of the importation charges (VAT, 4% tax, etc.)
I am newbie in buying cars and I need your help on the following questions:
1. Is it that simple or there is some major obstacle/charge somewhere to protect Swiss high prices?
2. Can I claim the German VAT and how does it work? I get it from the dealer once I pay the Swiss one and get the car out of Germany?
3. Is leasing an option in that situation or I just have to pay it in full at once.
4. Same rules apply for the used cars, right? In case I find something really worth it on mobile.de
5. Do I have to do all the importing and paperwork myself or the dealer can do that for a fee? Maybe if it’s a common practice this service is existing.
6. Anyone with similar experience? Buying car from DE or FR and importing in Swiss. Any tips, learnings?
7. Any tips on successful negotiating with the auto-dealer?
P.S.I have searched the forum for these topics, but they are either not that close or very old info. Apologies in advance if i missed something similar.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond,
Nick
