Just new to Zurich and I was wondering what a "betreibungsregisterauszug" is?
Also where do we get one from?

The location on your public profile was misleading - I thought you were in the Romandie side.
It looks like the correct department - the last time I did it in Zurich city Kriesburo 11 was CHF17 on the spot. For house applications, it cannot be older than 3 months ie if your house seeking takes more than 3 months, you'd have to apply and pay for a newer one.

Yes, they will issue it on the spot. Ask nicely if they can do additional copies for free. It always pays to have some extras on hand but make sure you clarify that they are free though.

Just in case it helps anyone in the future, I just did this today in Kreis 10, and cost 17chf per head. Takes 5 minutes

If you are already registered with the Kreisburo and you have the card that they gave you when you registered (generally an A4 sheet folded inside a plastic pouch/envelope) carry this card along. If you take it along you give 17 CHF otherwise 25-27 CHF. If you are in Kreis 9, the address in Holsstrasse 600 something.. Its near Bahnhof Altstetten, between the bahnhof and Siedelhof. first floor of the Julius Bar building.

I just went to my local Kreisburo in Zurich and they told me that they would not issue one as I have only been registered for 5 days. Isn't that going to make looking for a flat very difficult?

I have just recently done this this week in Kreis 4, when you go there just so you know this service is actually on the 2nd floor not the first and its only 17chf!!!!

For getting betreibung (Debt Certificate) you can go to Betreibungsamt ( Debt Register office ) . You can use the below link to find out the office nearest to your Kries area (eq. Altstetten is Kries 9)
