help with choice of car and garage

hi

we are currently looking for a car that can seat 5 people and a decent sized boot for buggy, shopping and a dog but with a good engine and not too expensive lol

we are also looking for this car to be leased and live near baden, does anyone have any personal experinces with the garages around baden and can give me any info?

we do like the opel zaffira and we were also looking at what peugeot where offering

your info would be greatly appreciated

I'll bite!

What is the budget?

Brand specfic?

Minimum specification? Sat-Nav? Cruise control? Park Distance?

Size?

Fuel economy important?

Driving satisfaction important?

Image important?

Running costs important?

You'll get better advice that way

Another vote for the Ford. We are ordering a new 7-seater S-Max today.

Fully specc'ed, you can expect to pay approx. CHF65k.

We need three full seats acorss the 2nd row for booster and baby seats and thought this one the best choice. Based on a Mondeo, so the size is not too big.

The other comments are correct though; space, with all 7 seats in use means there is barely enough for the weekly shop. However, you can fold the seats down to make a van.

thanks!

ok budget would like something thats going to cost under the 1,000 chf lease hire a month

brand = safety is key so not a kia or anything that bends when you sneeze near it lol

specs = sat nav yes, at least a 1.8ltr engine, comfortable

fuel economy is important yes i want something thats not going to break the bank to run

image for my husband is important but not so much for me , i would like something that does the job and not so much what it looks like

thanks

sounds good, wonder where the nearest garage to baden is, we are also leasing not buying

How about Google ?

Serenity:

Budget

Lease amount isn't important. If the interest rate is crippling or the period is 60mths compared to 36mths - you may end up paying far more than you wanted. For 1000chf per month you can easily get a brand new Volvo Estate (V50, V60, V70) with a very good specification.

Give an indication of the total price of the car.

Safety

Pretty much all cars will have NCAP 4 or 5* ratings. Kias aren't bad - their advantage is lower running costs. However their engines aren't as efficient/powerful as rivals.

Performance

A 1.8 litre engine can produce considerably different levels of performance/economy depending on the manufacturer. BMWs latest 320d (or X3 20d) is a remarkable bit of kit. Huge (if peaky) performance and exceptional economy.

Image

Volvo = family, safe, conservative

Audi = well made, Swiss loved

Subaru = The farmers choice

BMW = sporty but frugal

Merc = Luxury

VW = working towards an Audi

Generally, the image of Opel/Ford/Peugoet/Renault is poor in Switzerland, ranking little higher than Japanese makes.

Think twice about whether a people carrier type vehicle is the way to go. If you don't need 7-seats don't buy a 7 seater. A more traditional estate style car will be more economical, arguably more attractive and easier to drive.

If you are looking for main dealers - go to their swiss websites and look for "Handler Suchen" or "Standort" - you can then usually search by post code.

Assuming your budget (leased) is 50-70k, I'd look at:

Volvo V60/V70 - D3

BMW 320d

Merc C220d - Used

Audi A4/A6 (depending on space requirement)

If you want to buy a petrol engined car - the only manufacturer which has managed to mate good performance with economy is BMW.

If you want a "cool" family estate - and are happy with 4 year old - there are a number of V70R available - both auto (not a great match to the engine) and manual. More than enough sporty image for the husband, plenty of space, great seats, good safety, and 4 wheel drive. They come in around the 40k mark - which with a 10% deposit will be around the 700-900chf per month depending of residual payment and lease rate.
