hernia surgery cost

Has anyone had inguinal hernia repair in the past here in Switzerland? How much did it cost? How long did you stay in the hospital?

Thanks.

I had mine repaired at Bruderholz. In early morning to be prepped. Left the next day. Would have left the evening before, but they kept me in because I was nauseous, because they gave me morphine for post op pain - nowadays I specify "no morphine" for that reason.

Sorry, can't remember the cost.

If you have health insurance here it should be covered by it...if not, it's difficult to say. Will depend on the type of surgery you need, eg laparoscopic vs open surgery...laparoscopic will be more expensive and is done with general anaesthesia (extra anaesthesiologist fees). Open surgery may be done under local, sometimes general too though.

GA can sometimes results in overnight stay in hospital..Surgeon, hospital these fees will vary too.

Here's a link to an article with some quotes for various clinics which will give you an idea of the range (in German):

http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/zuerich/...story/18783786

Do you have Swiss Health insurance? If so, why are you bothered about the cost? It will cost you a maximum of your franchise (whatever you have set that as) plus 700 francs. Maximum franchise you can have is 2500chf, so maximum you pay is 3200chf.

So it's not 10% of the total cost? Is the CHF 700 the copay for the year or for each treatment/transaction?

Ten percent up to a MAXIMUM of 700chf. So if below 7000chf it would be less than 700chf... If over 7000chf then insurance pays 100% of the rest, you just pay the 700. It's a maximum of 700 each year, not per treatment/bill.

700 chf is the copayment for the year. It means that you pay 10% of the cost of any treatment up to a maximum of 700 chf in any one year so if your total treatment costs are more than 7000 chf in any year you no longer have to pay the 10%.

Edit: post crossed with Island Monkey. I really must learn to type faster.
