We are looking for apartments in Wollerau or Wilen b. Wollerau.. IT would be great if anyone who lives there to tell me about their experience.. We are a family of 4 ( kids 10& 8) and would be interested in parks/ Activities for kids like swimming/ karate/ Gymnastics etc.. would we find places like that in Wollerau/ Wilen? I am hopeful a big Micro/ Coop exist ;-) local bakeries and a nice community in general
Also any experiences with the local schools are soooo appreciated ;-) I am a bit stressed about the move in general
Appreciate the positive feedback and also the negative one
There are parks every few 100 meters, then there is a nice playground with skating area, lots of playhouses and beach volleyball courts which turns into ice skating rink in winter ( Erlenmoos Freizeit )
There is a kids karate club in Richterswil which is popular, indoor swimming pools are in the school or a public one in Wädenswil. Alpamare runs a kids swimming course if needed.
Local schools are very good level in terms of teacher engagement and facilities. There is a bilingual private school (OBS) in Pfäffikon if you are so inclined.
Keep in mind, Wollerau is in Gemeinde Wollerau and Wilen b. Wollerau is in Gemeinde Freienbach. Tax rates vary between the two.
Not as of next year if I read the Höfe Volksblatt correctly. Wollerau is going to increase taxes to the same as Freienbach and Feusisberg next year.
OP - Wollerau has a brand new Migros. It’s nice, but not huge. It also has a mid size Coop.
Wilen doesn’t really have any shops. There’s one attached to the Indian restaurant, but doesn’t sell much. Beyond that there is an Aldi in Feusisberg, a larger Coop at the motorway junction for Richterswil and of course the Seedam Centre in Pfäffikon.
Sports/kids play area wise there is also the athletics, football and volleyball facilities at Chrummen and plenty of nature all around.
Wollerau is a nice place to live in, especially with young kids. I have two kids (11+ and 7+) going to school in Wollerau. The school teachers are very competent and equipped with modern technologies. The playground "Erlenmoos" is quite large and parents from other cities bring their kids on weekends. There is coop, two migros, doctors, dentists, etc. that will meet basic needs. If you need more fun, Zurich is just 20 minutes drive from Wollerau.
I have been living in Wollerau since 2001. The Gemeinde is very friendly.
I hope it helps and look forward to welcoming you in Wollerau:-)
Wollerau is quite nice. Depending on where you are you will have a supermarket nearby and the new Migros is awesome and makes a big difference.
Up near Roostrasse there are some basketball courts and a soccer pitch that is really well maintained and rarely used. There is also a sports center nearby but I can't for my life remember it's name. There you have an indoor pool, courts, etc...
There are some nice hikes as well that start from around Wollerau. If you don't want to drive into Zurich, there are two trains lines you can take either going to Pfaeffikon or through Richterwsill (by bus first). Btw, during the summer Richterswill is a wondeful place to go swimming as it's not super crowded and has good pizzas in a nearby casual restaurant.
Do go to Banhofli Restaurant for lunch to meet some of the locals and have some of the best rosti I've tried in the whole country.
And don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
