Hidden Chat/Messaging App

WhatsApp allows you to phone and video message round the world for free. Most of my incoming and outgoing calls are WA ones.

You can also send voice messages that are much quicker and more personal than typing.

You can see if your message has been received and also when it is read. You can see if the other party is online and if they are in the process of typing or dictating a reply.

I would say I use WA more than email and I don’t find the security “worries” enough to warrant a banding WA for yet another messaging service.

You can ask WA to send you all the info they have on you. It takes 3 days, I don’t know why because it’s not much...

the one your friends are on?

in the end what you post online is gone from your control and should be thought of as such. Think Before You Click (TBYC)

This is one of the most hilarious things I have read all day, thanks for cheering me up Ace. I will also refrain from any light-hearted "Ok boomer" memes.

Oh, come on. Memes are so much fun! Ace1 is a good sport too so he won't mind (too much).

If I can't semophore it, I'm not interested. These Baby Boomers and their new fangled technologies...

If that was an app idea validation, better one would be an app that keeps the history/chats/contacts encrypted unless you prove your access by NFC key, USB key, fingerprint every 30 seconds... sort of that

Yes, I remember a conference talk which opened my eyes - it really doesn't matter what the messages are when you build a map of organized crime, you just look at who's talking with whom at what frequency - you quickly get a head(s) of each group and the contact points (links/messenger guys) between those organizations. So you see, the messages can be encrypted, forever private, because in reality it doesn't matter and it would be a waste of time and money to process them in real time on a global scale.

<> this. And Telegram is only encrypted if you use the "secret chat" feature.

Threema: Feeling very cool now and yes, rather lonely so far. But Signal cheers me up for the time being.

Want my cell phone no to cheer you up? Am on both

You should actually have it.... :-)

In the NYT today there is an article comparing Telegram to Signal. One big difference is that Signal limits message forwarding to 5, at a time, while telegram has no limit.

Meaning spreading misinformation is facilitated by Telegram. The NYT was unable to get a comment from Telegram on this point.

What’s app bowed to pressure some months ago and limits forwarding to 5 at a time

Yes I see you there. I don't remember if that was a one-sided info exchange back then, so I'll set that right now. On threema of course, not on EF
