Hiring a Filipino maid

We are at the moment living in Taiwan and we have a Filipino maid. In a few months I will have to move to Switzerland to live there with my familiy. We are originally from EU. We would like to take our Filipino maid with us to Switzerland. Could somebody help us telling us what we should do and which would be the best way to get our Filipino maid legalized in Switzerland? Thanks for any support you could give us.

Non-EU Permits - a few bullet points.

Unfortunately a maid is not considered highly skilled - obtaining a permit will be very difficult and probably impossible.

Not sure about swiss rules, however in the UK if the maid has worked with you for 2years then she can get a permit.

I'd be supprised if there wasn't a similar scheme in CH.

You'll be surprised then.

... and bear in mind that if it was possible then the wages would have to go up .

there are certainly au pairs in Switzerland, so there must be a program to allow this.

Is the maid just maid or for child care (which is typical in Asia)?

You would be better off contacting the Trade Office of Swiss Industries in Taipei who, in the absence of an Embassy, look after visa enquiries:

I knew one family who brought their filipina maid with them when they moved here from overseas but they were in the diplomatic service and attached to their country's consulate in Zurich so their move wasn't permanent and my guess is special rules apply to them.

Good Luck!

a bit more.. your Filipino maid can come in under an F-permit (renewed ever 12months), but as swissbob said you need to look after them.

Which of course only applies if the original poster is member of either the diplomatic or the consular corps, or is otherwise employed by an international organisation...

So you supposed all the maids, drivers, cooks, etc in west london domestic service are not employed by the officers of international organisations?

Excuse me - where, how and why exactly does west london come into discussion here?

Hi, I just want to share a story with you. My parents friends brought their maid with them from India, they were with the UN (living in Geneva). After nearly 5 years of living here the maid decided that she wasnt being treated properly and got in touch with a christian organisation. She accused our friends of locking her up in her room and starving her. The christian organisation decided that because her salary wasnt the normal average salary that a swiss maid would earn (at this time the average salary for a swiss maid was around CHF 3000, including free housing, food and medical), she was probably speaking the truth and they took our friends to court. This inspite of him being very senior in the UN. Our friends ended up paying CHF 150'000 to the maid. So please think very carefully before you bring your maid here.

Thanks a lot for the help I am receiving from so different people. I was also thinking of the possibility that she could come as Ou per. Is that easier than bringing her as maid? For how long could she stay with us?

The Filipinno community is very strong here - my wife is from the Philppines. After a few months she will soon find out about her rights and entitlements and will have a lot of friends to ensure she gets a fair deal.

My wife and her friends have helped quite a few of her country people to "escape" from semi slavery.

Recently a girl who ran away from a Saudi family stayed with us until she managed to get home.

There is a special scheme for au pairs which is intended to provide placements with families where the mother tongue is one of the national languages. There are strict limits on the permits and an approved language course must be provided. Unfortunately, as you will be new in the country I don't think you will fit the requirements.

Are you suggesting that the maid should seek asylum?

... so different rules apply then.

Ok, replace with Oberstrasse then. The filipino supermarket on Limmatstrasse tells me thats where they all work.

(I've never been to Oberstrasse so am guessing)

So what exactly is your point? That there are Filipinos in Switzerland? No big surprise there - just like many other nationalities.

The question was - "can I bring my Filipino maid here", which you tried to respond to, albeit with a document irrelevant to the poster's context. Now if you're assuming that since you've seen a few Filipinos around then there must be a special legal prescription dedicated to their immigration, then you simply assume wrong.
