Holographic Wills

Dear all,

According to ch.ch a Holographic Will needs to be entirely handwritten. My question is whether this can be printed and hand-signed instead in cases where the person’s handwriting is not very legible and/or the will is too long?

Or in cases where it is printed and hand-signed it needs to get notarized with witnesses?

Many thanks for any clarifications here…

We had exactly the same question and the answer was that, in Vaud, it needed to be hand written in French or witnessed and notarised. Your Canton may apply different rules.

For every Swiss resident Swiss laws apply to the will. For example one cannot write-out a close family member. Non-Swiss can request in the Will that the laws of their country apply.

I highly recommend involving a Swiss notary. It may be expensive but considering the complexity of the subject it may be worth every centime.
