Home Automation in Switzerland

People definitely do it with DIN rail mounted smart switches. Loads are available - including from reputable companies.

A few immediate problems I can think of though -

  • Existing electrical cables from the consumer unit may feed a few different sockets, light fittings.

  • Cables which are unique to a device probably go to cookers and fridges etc and you probably wouldn’t want to turn these off remotely.

  • A device, like a lamp bulb may not just need a switch but something more complex like a dimmer, and the need to be controlled locally too so you’d still need a local control unit if your DIN mounted switch didn’t have this ability.

Probably something worth doing for a new build with new cabling installed for such a scenario.
