I'm moving to a new place in July and will have a lot more room than I do now. I was thinking that I might therefore get some home gym equipment, one of those all-in-one deals, but I'm not sure where to begin shopping. I'm thinking maybe Athleticum in Zürich, but I'd love to have some other suggestions (particularly in Zug, as that's where I'll be).
Get a Wii Sports console with balance board. My wife and I find it incredible. It might seem trivial and childish at the first glance but it is tough workout toy with plenty of different options.
Probably not what you want to hear but I reckon a good set of free weights and a swiss ball would probably be much more worthwhile than one of those multi-gyms.
If you don't wanna gift your money, just have a look at ricardo.ch, I've bought all my equipments there, benches, home traniners, rowers and so forth, keep your eyes open and you'll get great deals.
P.S.: I'm talking about brand new tools you can get heavily discounted than the normal shops.
I have a Kettler I got from them about 10 years ago, service and price were excellent and post-sales support for a small issue was dealt with excellently too.
It's a Kettler CTR-1 elliptical trainer and still going strong
They have very good after sales service, but you can get some of their stuff at Migros Sport XX for a little bit less cost. The after sales service however is close to nil and they dont really "know their stuff" like these guys do..
I have a Kettler multi gym thingy at home but I find the free weights are actually much more effective. Also I used to work for a chain of gyms, all the fitness trainers (all of them qualified) all told me free weights are the best.
Maybe the two things are 'parallel' to a home trainer versus a roller - (own bicycle unsupported, riding on three cylinders, two for back wheel, front wheel stands on the third). In addition to using your leg muscles as on the home trainer, on the roller your core muscles are constantly being called on to help you keep your balance and move the front wheel back to the middle of the front roller when it strays. Of course, riding no-hands on the roller is the ultimate test!
