Horseback riding - Zurich Area

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any stables in the Zurich area (preferably near Zollikon) where I can take horseback riding lessons or lease a horse longterm? I use to ride very frequently and want to get started again after not riding for the past two years since moving here.

ps- I've already checked out the stable near Uetliberg but am looking for somewhere else.

Probably not much help as I don't know of anywhere but if you find something can you let me know. would love to start riding again as not been since I left the UK!

There's quite a few riding stables in between ZH and us, maybe half an hour from ZH. You can see them from the Autobahn and the train but I'm not exactly sure where - I'll try to get a position next week. One or 2 look like quite big concerns. A few riding stables round here as well but probably too far from you

I'm quite interested in learning horse riding as well, so please keep me posted as well!

(what was the problem with the one in Uetliberg?)

We will also be looking for riding lessons when we move next month. My 11yr old daughter rides and I am thinking of taking it up again. I will keep you posted if we find anything.

There is a stable for jumping, equitation (?? rough spanish translation) and cross-country right near Hongg. I have only ever seen it running along the river but it looks very large and the grounds are beautiful.

This sucks, can't anyone get some hard facts/substantial information going in this thread?

Heya guys

Not to put a dampner on what you are trying to do but you will all find it a little difficult to find riding lessons for a couple of reasons.

1. Most riding schools or teachers require that you have your own horse, this also , i believe, depends on the riding that you are learning. I have my own horse ( who is currently injured) and I want to take lessons for her benefit but its rather difficult with out a horse. I finally got it sorted though.

2. Leasing a horse will also be difficult as most people here from what I have seen and experienced are reluctant to leave their horses in someone elses care and this is made worse if you dont speak that local language.

3. I did look briefly at Migros as a friend of mine mentioned that they had classes and with some luck I found the page again

http://www.klubschule.ch/framedef_1....30DFBEA5CC6D9F

but it would seems that this course is in Luzern....

4 I will ask the people at the stables if they know of or can reccomend a good riding school that will provide horses for you all.

Sorry that I cant be of much more help - hope this helps a little ...

Enjoy

How about contacting the Swiss Western Riding Association? They seem to do all sorts of things...

(German language website)

Hope that helps...

I know how difficult in can be in the U.S. It takes a while for the owner to trust someone to lease their horse. I rode at one barn for two years before some of the owners warmed up and I got into long-term leasing relationships. That was the best situation because I could ride three days a week but wasn't tide down to everyday.

I'll check out the Migros school. After a bad fall last year put me in the hospital unconscious I wouldn't mind taking it easy and building up my confidence again.

Thanks for the western link too. I'm sure there are western riders out there but I myself ride English style.

My wife goes regularly to Oberseen (near Winterthur). Not Zurich I know but seems you do not have many options so thought would post. Not sure if they speak English but see lots of kids and adults riding there. Monday to Friday 9am, 2pm 7pm and at weekends. Hope this helps.

There is a nice operation in Oberembrach 5 minutes by car from the airport direction Embrach. The farm is in the village run by Rene and Susan Spinner - they will be in the phone book.

They heve their own horses you can use plus a lot of well-off people keep thir horses there. The teacher , Hanny , is fantastic I am told. I know these folks well and they are very nice. I do not ride - horses are too damn big for me.

I live in Wädenswil and there are simply TONS of stables here: there are at least three within a ten minute walk from my house. I haven't a clue if any offer lessons to the general public.

BUT, I have been wondering if anyone who owns a horse in these stables needs help exercising it???

I grew up with horses, rode for about 15 years, then have had the greater part of the past 8 years off from riding. I would love to get back into it!

If your horse needs some extra attention, PM me please! Thanks!

Hi,

I did some search myself couple weeks ago on riding school (try reitschule, zürich in yellow pages, or google)...You dont have to have your own horse. Most schools have at least half a dozen, should be suitable for beginners, and all.....Here's what I found

http://www.stall-mattenhof.ch/ is run by a Scottish lady (Carol). I have not contacted her nor have any more information. But if you want someone English speaking...worth a try.....

For horse loaning, or leasing, I found these sites (again google using reitbeteiligung, or reitgelengenheit). Reitbeteiligung is horse share and would involve some cost.

Good luck and enjoy. Hope this helps. I don't have anymore information....worth giving these people a ring, if you are keen....

Hi,

Does you know of any riding stables in or around Kussnachgt am Rigi? I am relocating there at the begining of October and looking for somewhere for my daughter to ride. I am very experienced and my daughter who is 9 years old has had her own pony since she was three. We will eventually purchase a pony but just want to get settled first.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks

...Does anyone know of a company or farm which offers a horse n carriage service for weddings? I would only need it for 30mins, in the Forch/Zumikon area. Thanks!

I've seen a horse and trap on Chalberweidstrasse a few times, I assume it's from the farm there.. lots of horses in forch/zumikon..

here s a link for horse leasing, no idea how they are though but i ve seen their ads a couple of times

http://www.pferdeleasing.ch/

also in thurgau i know the stable pferdehof tiefental which does the same kind of horse leasing http://www.pferdehof-tiefental.ch/

normally horse owners dont like just 'giving' their horse to a stranger. i have a reitbeteiligung in aargau where i pay every month (this is very normal here). i also teach lessons to kids in the saeuliamt on weekends and the owner there would also not just let strangers take the ponies.

... I am just another soul who is looking to come back to horse ridding after having moved countries ... And it'd darn hard

I was thinking of a lease or at least getting a horse who you can really work with ....

Can somebody help ? Maybe you would like to share a lease ?

HAELP ! :P
