Hotels in London ?

Hi EF mates:

I am looking for Nice/cheap hotels in London.

As I will not rent a car, I need a Hotel in the near of downtown and with access (very near) to public transportation. So, let me know please if you have reference for family hotels with these conditions.

(PS: I have been to almost all the hotel sites, but as I dont know the places is hard for me to decide, with the name of the district, if it's near downtown or not, or if I have tube/train access nearby.)

in the absence of what nice is, have cheap

Depends on what you mean by cheap.....

I sometimes stay here if Im looking to cut costs when I travel for work. Its around 50GBP a night (for single bed dunno for family rooms but will obviously cost more especially if you have an ensuite) which is cheap for London. Cheaper single rooms are shared bathrooms - but each room has its own sink. Its clean, well kept and free wifi.

Its 2-5 mins walk to Glouchester Road tube (London Undeground) and has three lines going to it, Circle, District and Picadilly so getting anywhere in London is easy.

Hi,

Try Ibis hotels in London www.ibishotel.com they are quite affordable for nice clean and comfortable rooms.

Fran, when you say downtown do you know what region you mean ? do you mean the most social area, which is probably the west end, or do you mean the business district which is around Bank or Canary Wharf ? It's easier to recommend once this is known.

Ive been to this place:

Its a hostel and not a hotel, but maybe they have private rooms if you ask. If i go to London again im not bothering with anything else. Absolutely loved it

Hi Mike:

I mean, historical downtown (big ben, parlament, etc)

And its in zone 1 of the tube which is basically in the middle of London. You can walk everywhere from there

From most places near tube lines you can get to Big Ben and other tourist sites pretty easily. For example the suggestion of Baden-Powell House or my suggestion of Montana Hotel are both near Glouscester Rd station and it would take about 15-20 mins max by tube to get to BBen.

I stayed here once (Grange City, Coopers Row), claims to be 5*, it's nice and I got a good price:

right next to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

Sussex Gardens is reasonably central and keenly priced. There are quite a few to choose from. It is close to Hyde Park and Paddington Station. Not far from Oxford Street.

Hi,

I like this B&B -- feels like home away from home and it is very conveniently located next to Baker Street tube station: http://www.22yorkstreet.co.uk/

Base2Stay is another good option: http://www.base2stay.com/

For London, I always use Priceline. Every time I got a fabulous hotel at an affordable price.

You name an area and a category. You then offer a price you are willing to pay. Either somebody takes it or not. Nothing to loose.

I got the Meridien hotel one time and the Sheraton the other time. Both times for the price of a budget hotel.

Two options:

1. rent an apartment. this would be good if you are staying for a week or more.

the website I use is www.holiday-rentals.co.uk

2. for a short stay (basically anywhere), I opt for the Accor group especially Novotel, because their prices for the quality they provide is affordable and the rooms are always suitable for 2 adults and 2 children, they never let me down. There are about 9 Novotels in London. try www.Novotel.com

when you go on the website, you can search for the dates you want and you will get a list of the available hotels, you can then check the hotel description which will tell you how easy access to hotel by public transportation.

We stayed here last May for 7 nights. Clean and comfortable. The train line is a commuter railway and quiet at night. We stayed on the road side of the hotel, normal London noise from 6am to 7 pm. Good English breakfast buffet style, don't need to buy lunch!

Good cheap restarants nearby. It is between Aldgate East and Tower Hill tube stations. i.e. near north end of Tower Bridge.

Buy yourself an Oster card for travelling on buses and underground, any manned railway station sells them and many newsagent shops,

Consider a hotel in or around Wembley, NW London. Its not a particularly scenic part of town, but there are plenty of hotels in the area and if there are no major events around your dates you can get some amazing off peak rates. However what makes Wembley so attractive is the fact that there is a fast Metropolitain line train that gets you into The West End in 10 mins.
