House insurance - key replacement?

Hi

I live in an apartment block and am looking to leave. I have realized I have lost a key over the years. Does home insurance cover such a loss?

I've heard that all locks would have to be replaced for all tenants if a key is lost but not sure if this is just some scare tactics to stop people losing keys?

Thanks

I recall we returned all keys and it was certainly impression we would be paying for new locks, etc if not returned.

Get a new key made

If they are the special keys that only the landlord can order, get him to order you one

I had extra keys made for my price. Cost around 60 CHF each, but are the official keys.

Altertively, try different key cutting shops until you find one that will cut a new key and ignore the rules

I recommend you try and do it yourself. It will be much cheaper than letting the Régie solve the problem itself.

When I left an apartment some years back the guy who did the inspection noted that one radiator knob was missing, and there was no note on the previous form, so it was my responsibility. I offered to go down to the Migros or Coop Brico and get a replacement. I had seen them there in matching (boaring grey) colours for 5 francs or so.

The guy said "no don't bother" the rest of the place is in tip top state and the Regie would probably just let it go as it was very minor.

I listened to his advice and lo and behold about two months later I got a detailed plumbers bill for over 100 francs charging for 1 hour minimum labour, transport from/to the other side of Geneva and the cost of the replacement knob - 5 francs.

Perhaps but a doorknob on the door and nobody will notice?

On a serious note, keys such as this are generally the hardest to reproduce and need to go via the landlord

If you have a controlled key then the advice above is fairly useless

And most apartments nowadays do have controlled keys.

If you want a new key you will need to ask your landlord/agent for one.

I would be very surprised if you would find a store that would bend the rules so I wouldn't bother wasting your time.

If it's a question of the final handover you will have to account for all your keys. If there is a key missing, yes you will be on the hook for any chagrs that need to be made to locks, etc. But, the good news is that your liability insurance will cover this.

You can get KABAs done in Italy no problem.

Sourcing Kaba or Keso keys

If they are numbered, that's another problem.

Why would you want to undermine the access to the building by having bootleg keys made in Italy if the insurance will pay for genuine ones?
