House number - where to buy?

Any ideas where I can buy a new house number for a house in Basel?

The exterior of my house was recently painted and prior to painting, the house number (metal plate) was removed and subsequently misplaced/lost.

The house numbers throughout Basel, all seem to be the same (not sure if all Switzerland), i.e. Blue background with white numbers.

I asked in the local hardware store (Obi), but there offerings are quite different.

I guess the other place to look is ricardo.ch. They have a category "Sonstige Nummernschilder" which often has them in.

I guess you have to contact the Grundbuchamt - they are the ones who number the houses and you need an official number for your house. Just call them and tell the story.

You can get them from the commune/gemeinde here. Maybe try yours?

They are all a standard dark blue background with white lettering on here.

I thought any hardware store like Hornbach would be the place to go get these?

Genau ..... I've bought screw-on individual plastic numbers, for walls, doors, etc. and stick-on ones, on my letter box, from Bauhaus.

I know there is no Bauhaus in/near Basel, but any similar DIY store should have them.

The most important, is to fix a number of any description first - and them worry about conforming to the Gemeinde norm, later.

In my Gemeinde, all the house numbers are all uniform white on red metal shaped plaques, and are even fixed (on new houses), by the supplier himself.

However, they are not so big, and can easily be missed, hence my need to affix a couple of others.

Hard to believe you own a house in Basel and have never been to Hornbach.. I've got all sorts of visions of half finished DIY ...get down there pronto....

In Germany there are regulations about visibility, placement, lighting, etc. in case emergency services get called to the house. Guess it is the same here.
