Housing in Nyon (City)

Hello,

I'll start working in Nyon in mid March. I am still in Portugal and I am looking for apartments in Nyon. How much time does it take for the rental process to finish since you visit the apartment and deliver the folder of application? My fear is having nowhere to stay when I start working. Can you guys give some advice?

Thank you very much

Rui

Based on my experience, you are already late...

To visit an apartment and apply for that does not mean that your application will be accepted.

It's absolutely normal to wait several months (i.e. visiting and applying for apartments during that period) until finally one of your applications will be successful.

Housing, rentals are quite hard to find in general in switzerland with a lengthy application process, (and difficult if you are not here), as most agents only work with week day hours, but they seem to be building all over the place with new apartments popping up everywhere. check comparis.ch, anibis.ch. and if you can't find a place in nyon it is quite easy to commute from a nearby village/town etc

Thank Henrikh and Harls for your help.

I was thinking about looking for a room to rent and then start looking for a place of my own. Renting a room is as hard as renting a flat? The same burocracy applies to room renting?

no, that should be more simple.

Here is an advert one for example where they are looking for a "colocataire" in Nyon:

As you might be aware, there is a big Portuguese community in Suisse Romande, so you will certainly have some support if you're connected..

Thanks for the help.

I already found a portuguese guy that lives nearby and he will let me stay in his place while I look for a place of my own. Now I can be more at ease looking for a studio.

Again, thank you very much for your help.
