How do I eat bratwurst mit burli?

This is something I always wanted to know, but was too embarrased to ask. But after failing to explain it to my visitors over the holiday, it's time to find the answer.

Can somebody explain to me the correct way to eat bratwurst mit burli?

The extent of my knowledge of eating a sausage with bread, is to put the sausage inside the bread and eat them together. But this seems impossible with a 6 inch sausage (fnarf fnarf) and a 2inch diameter bread roll which is as hard as concrete.

Surely we don't just dip bread into mustard and eat it seperately?

well the way I eat them and have seen people eat them is to take a bite of the sausage and break off pieces of bread seperately, dipping bread and sausuage into tom sauce or senf or both.

The funniest thing I saw was when I went to the Basel v Boro match in Basel early last year, all the burly skin head, tattooed Boro fans trying to stick their sausage into their rock hard chunk of bread with very confused expressions.

My way to eat bratwuscht mit bürli is:

slice (ususally with your fingers) the bürli in two halfs, but not totally, just that the slices still are together in a little part. then put the mustard on the bürli-halfs (usually with help of the sausage). now you can dip your sausage in the mustard on the bürli. After you've eaten the sausage you have wonderful bread with mustard on it.

best thing of this way: after you have have put the mustard on the bürli, you don't need any plate or table anymore. two hads are enough.
