How do you dispose of light bulbs?

Hi

Can anyone assist me with this question, i don't want to put it in the normal rubbish bag if there is a way to dispose of them

many thanks

is it a normal incandescent bulb or a CFL/energy saving one?

They are just normal bulbs, not energy saving

They go in the standard trash.

sorry for hi-jacking the post - but what about the energy saving ones?

Also, on a random related them - I have ikea knives that no longer cut - where can I get rid of these? I'm thinking standard rubbish could be a little bit dangerous!

Large Co-ops and other supermarkets have a bin for these.

Knives, and all other metal, should not be put in your normal bin.

Most Geminde's have a place where you can drop off rubbish including metals.

It's normally free for most things.

I usually take them down to the main train station here and throw them at the gypsies and beggars...

they make a delightful popping sound when you hit them just right.

EDIT.. I've not thought of doing this with old knives as yet.

@ruth1982 and @collilj - This thread Rubbish/Waste/Recycling should answer your questions and provides a whole host of other useful information.

energy saving ones need to be property recycled/disposed of because they contain mercury and other nasties which would otherwise leech into the ground and potentially contaminate the food/water supply.

Actually in our gemeinde "rules" it says neither regular nor energy saving bulbs are allowed in the trash.

Most coops have a recycling post for the energy saving ones - next to the PET/batteries/water filter recycling.

The other kind of bulbs we take to Ikea who have a recycling post for all lightbulbs (you can take them to the kundendienst) - I'm sure there is a gemeinde waste disposal place for them but since we are such regulars at Ikea we just save them up .

Many thanks everyone for your posts, all very helpful
