Years ago I was on holiday in the Lake District and Cumbria and I was bitten on my foot by a false widow spider, it left 2 puncture marks. My foot an ankle swelled up to 3 times the size and was red hot, I had to seek immediate medical help the next day. The doctor marked the area with a black pen and said if the redness moved beyond the area to get to a hospital immediately as I could lose my foot. We had to cut the holiday short and drive home as I felt so unwell, I was ill for 10 days after.
A friend of mine in Scotland woke up during the night with one biting her on the chest.
Katydids are generally not harmful to humans, and in many cultures, they are seen as symbols of good luck. Not that I would like to find one on my face, however.
Oh my goodness! You have awakened a 70-year-old memory. My godmother, who was stationed in Kyoto for smallpox eradication, gave me a cricket cage. I wonder what ever happened to it?
If I’d seen something that size in my livingroom I would have passed out.
Before we left our last apartment we had brown crickets jumping along he floor from time to time, we think someone nearby had an exotic pet like a lizard.
Up with the birdies this morning…14C and dewy. Now that the bees have forsaken the lavender, I did the annual hoe-out, and there are a few new blossoms coming. The snapdragons are loving the heat. OH helped me move the Belle of Barmera dahlia, now with a new 10" blossom, off the terrace and into the lawn, as it is threatening to touch the ceiling. The plant is almost 6 feet tall. Unfortunately, it’s very thirsty and drinks about 10L each day. I’ve never seen a dahlia this big.
