I am wondering if anyone has been on the Bahamas, i can not find much information on the internet. If someone could give me some ideas how live is there and if the crime numbers are realy so high, that would be superb. I thank you very much for links to other forums too where i can get more information. It would be great if somone lived there for a while or was on a holiday who could tell about the cost of living, activities, social live and job oportunities and the possibilities to set up a busines.
Thank you.
You'd hate it. It's full of foreigners.
Thank you, that is what i am looking for. I am wondering why you think i would hate it?
Well, they source most of their food from Italy, half of them are married to Swiss women because they are after little red passports, and, worst of all, most of the people are black.
Can you imagine that, Mr Tom?
A whole country full of them! Foreigners! Brown ones!
Better stay in Switzerland where it's safe, eh?
went there on holiday a few years ago, very nice indeed, quite cheap iirc for shopping, drinks etc, very friendly people (if your a brit, they were not keen on yanks) would love to live there, if you find any spare jobs there let me know
Don't listen to him, Tom!
The Bahamas are horrible .
It rains every day, there's a pervasive smell of sewage in the air, and the women are uglier than the milkmaids of Schwyz.
Switzerland is much more your cup of tea.
well it did rain everyday, for a few minutes mid afternoon, you could set your watch by it
I lived there for a few years before coming to Switzerland. PM me if you prefer.
I quite liked it but it hard to imagine a place more different that Switzerland, except the high prices maybe.
Security is an issue I feel but not an unmanageable one.
@DB . You must have a complete misunderstanding and prejudice abut my opinion on immigration. I am willing to discuss this topic but it is OT here. And please vorgive me because of the "?" word, i realy didn`t do it on purpouse.
DB - you've made your point. I am staggered by the lack of helpful information from a person who is so well read and surely has many more helpful facts at his fingertips than you give us here.
Let's have other peoples' opinions now shall we? Otherwise I might be forced to TAKE MEASURES.
Thank you for your post and anyone who gives some more information later, i will send you a PM later because i am in a hurry now. Have a nice evening.
I'm sorry, I have not lived in the Bahamas so can not give specific information BUT after having lived in Hawaii (island where everything familiar is shipped in), having spoken with a friend from Jamaica and seeing my sis and her hubby living in Key West, I am sure there are some typical things which I can comment on...
First, in those island areas, the only way to live inexpensively is to buy from local markets. Local eggs from local chickens, milk and beef from local cows (and being islands, it's not like there will be so many cows), local produce, etc etc. Oh, and expect water to be expensive and rationed as well.
Also, it is one thing to be there on vacation, it is something else entirely to live there. Housing is costly for not-so-great places and as tourism tends to be a major source of income the pay scale generally sucks hugely - tourist areas usually are extremely low pay and high stress.
The flip side is that if you adapt well to new cultures / environments, and you can quickly learn to live like the locals, it really isn't so bad. Everything from day-to-day dress to free time activities may (or may not) be very different from what you are used to... trying to live like you've "always" lived will usually be expensive (if not impossible).
Low taxes, sunshine every day, English speaking, low stress, drink proper tea, play cricket and it looks like this: (what's not to like?)
Stress level working in tourist areas depends entirely upon how much you have to deal with the tourists themselves.
Meanwhile, if Bahamas are much like I've been told of Jamaica and how I know Hawaii is, there are areas where tourists are and other areas where (generally speaking) they are not... so depending upon your capabilities regarding employment, it is entirely possible to avoid them altogether.
No income tax, lots of sun, but hurricanes too, english and creole, low stress - sorta, tea? everybody I knew drank rum or Kalik, Bahamians play Basketball, Cricket is probably still the national sport, but Basketball is first in their hearts.
Nice picture
Info from teacher there, second hand: Small, very small, damned small. Wonderful the first week, then just too expensive for keeping up the good life.
Thus: one needs BIG money to afford anything but sunshine. And money does not make the place larger.
