How much CHF per day?

Dear Members

I will be staying in Zurich for 2 weeks starting from 10th May. My company is providing me with accomodation (incl breakfast), for lunch and dinner how much it will cost me per day. I am a vegetarian. Pl let me know the apprx figure. This will help to know how much CHF (cash) I need to carry, as I dont want to use my cards.

Thanks in anticipation

Depends if you are going to eat a sandwich and yoghurt on a park bench or dine every day at the Baur au Lac. Basically you can spend as much or as little as you like.

I shop for my lunch at Coop and a sandwich, yoghurt and a salad sets me back less than about CHF15.

When I am on the road within Europe, I bill for CHF 55.- per day...

which should be plenty to eat lunch and dinner on in Zürich.

I guess that would depend on where you go to eat. If you go to Hilti's which is a fab vegetarian restaurant (but a bit pricey) you would need around CHF 20-30 per meal. On the other hand if you go to the Migros/Manor or Coop restaurants you can get a vegetarian meal for as little as CHF 10-15.

you can take an average of 30-35 CHF per day..As each time meal atleast cost 15/- or more(if you take water or softdrinks)

Lunch will be a quick sandwich from coop/migros everyday, dinner say a 2 course meal in a decent restaurant (not too expensive)

I hope you have got the information you were looking for.... so, let's meet at coming "EF get together" and you buy us all a drink

Thanks guys, I would carry about 500 CHF. I hope thats sufficient

I would take at least 1300, and that is being very, very conservative.

Fr. 35.00 per day for 2 meals in restaurants/take-aways/supermarkets is slim but doable (obviously excluding the "burger options"). There's a large supermarket chain called "Migros" and the larger stores in town have a "Gourmessa" section, takeaway food (also hot) at very reasonable prices

500 CHF for 2 weeks?? Would that include following;

1. Local transportation

2. shopping

3. Weekend traveling

consider the advice of J.L-P.

CHF700 would be safer. You might want to splash out on fondue or Raclette once or twice. And don't forget drinks are quite expensive in restaurants (CHF4-8) and a bottle of cola from the supermarket is about CHF1.20.

Isn't it safer to carry credit cards though?

Hmmm, as Sandgrounder has said, it depends on what one eats. But 1000 for 2 weeks after breakfast is covered . He has said he is a vegetarian. Which means he can't eat caviar and foi d' gras and such other perverted stuff...So I really doubt if someone can spend 1000 in 2 weeks on vegetarian food.

But of course, in a country where bathing frequency varies from thrice-a-day to once-a-week, anything is possible

OOps, JLP had added those costs, I thought he was only asking about food. Yes, if you include shopping, costs can vary from 300 CHF to 3 Million depending on shopping habits

I edited up 300chf from the original because this is Zurich and I still think 1300 for food and drink is iffy.

A normal meal in a restaurant is about 35 CHF not including beer, wine,

etc. For a vegetarian, it might be just a bit less.

For lunch, you can get a special for about 20-25.

I would ask for a MINIMUM of 60 per day but more like 80 CHF per day.

Ok guys. I wont be doing any major shopping. Hotel to office everyday is walkable distance. so that leaves food, airport transit and I might goto Luzern in the weekend. So maybe 750 CHF. I will have my credit/debit cards with me, but I dont want to use them.

I'd say HollidayG's estimates are about right for middle-of-the-road, nice-but-not-fancy restaurants. 35CHF a day for lunch and dinner is doable (especially if lunch is just a deli sandwich), but you'd have to watch it... and you'll probably be too busy with other things to be ferreting out nice, inexpensive restaurants with good vegetarian selections every night.

Bring too much money and you can always exchange what's left over at the airport - or better yet, just bring your bank card, a couple hundred francs to get started, and withdraw cash as you need it. There are cash machines all over town, and most (all?) of them work even on plain non-smart cards.

I think with moderate spending CHF 750 will be enough.. Have a great time in CH!

750 CHF is about £440 GBP, I thnk in london about £200 is enough for food. SWISS is DAMN expensive then.

But I suppose quality of living is 10 times better than london
