When comparing import and swiss cars one difference is the 100'000km (or 10years) service included package. The question is how much is it worth if you need to pay it? Since obviously it's brand dependent here is my scenario:
- BMW series 5, 3.0 liters and diesel engine
- engine oil changed every 10'000km
- big service every 30'000km (filters, brakes, air condition, engine, etc...)
How much do the small and big service cost in average?
I assumed small service about 1000CHF and big service 2000 chf
so value would be approximately: 6x1000 + 3x2000 = 12000chf
BMW give you a 10-year/100'000km deal, right? And the service intervals are 2 years.
I believe you still pay for fluids and consumables with this deal - I remember having to pay something for the 2 year service on my Beemer last year....about 300 francs IIRC.
The real deal was with my Disco. I hit 100'000km right at the end of the 4-year window and I think I paid a big fat zero. That's services annually and 4 days before the 4 years of age, disks and pads
Paid nothing.....nothing. And had a loaner vehicle on the day of the service.
For BMWs the services "tend" to occur every 20-25k of "normal" driving.
My most recent BMW service was 650chf including all fluids (oil etc) and a brake fluid change. This was a "minor" service.
Technically the 100k km service pack is worth around 3-4k chf
SEAN - JLR's service pack is incredibly good value. Extended warranty is (I think) 1,300chf per year incl service. First class gets you full maintenance (no cost to you on any repair) for 2,500chf per year!
I think it is of little or no "value" (read saving) considering the extra you pay for Swiss cars, our Mercedes ML400 averaged Chf800/1000 per service, our Nissan Navara Chf900 per service with "all inclusive", but you can't buy new without it (grey imports excluded) and if you can you will run into servicing and warranty problems from a genuine dealer here. So if you are close to a boarder buy over the boarder, do the import and get it serviced over there.
