Why not have a cultural exchange that does not include religion? The ties that bind the people of the middle easter are more cultural than religious and it is about time that more attention was paid to these aspects. Not all people of the ME are Muslim and even withing the Muslim faith there are different beliefs. Most Swiss people are very appreciative of culture- so why not share the poetry, films, carpets, science, history of these societies? Why religion?

i think we are mixing here between the definetion of culture and religion
we cant say that we are intrested in a nation culture but in the same time we reject thier bilieves or religion , religionor bilieves (glouben) is a main factor in any culture and ME or the 90% of the arabs are muslims and islam playing great rule in thier lives even if many not brackticing thier bilieve but still islam is deep in evry corner in that culture isn it !!!
so it is not logic to talk about the ME eatern culture and in the same time we ask the muslims or the arabs to forgette thier bilieves to be axcepted in any cultural dialouge ,religion in the ME (middle East ) who creating most of the culture and not the oppisite,and sivilisation is differ from culture you know what the americans done to the red indian culture???
for example the head skarf started as religion habbitt and with time it become culture but the roots is religion but big part of thinkers in the west dont axcept this culture and they want to impose thier culturs on others and ask others to adobt thier culture, if we want to start any culture dialouge the both musst axcept each nation values and cultures and admit on the mistakes they have commetted against the others (in case they done such thing) like wars and so on ,if the swiss papole preciate the arabic culture as you sayed let them give the right to muslims or arabs to pray in mosques and give them jobs and stop the attacking lies in the media and stop supporting dektator regiems pressing them , but u want them to bilieve on exchanging films and peotry but in the same time u attack them in your media and attack thier bilieve and opening your land to dektator leaders wich they governing thier nations with iron and secret police and not allwing the wemen to drive cars and then you want us to talk about exchanging films and peorty and culture ???????

There is good and bad in every religion but the best religions are those that preach tolerance and forgiveness. Where on this forum do you find a thread with Jews or Christians arguing the strengths of their religion to the detriment of others?

Your assumption that most people speak German is incorrect, our common language on this forum is English so a translation of your speech would be most appreciated.
Actually some of the world's leading technology is taking place in the ME. Especially in the area of stem cell research where there are fewer religious issues on the topic!
Verena how did stem cell research get into this topic? If it was aimed at me then I was referring to his point (on the 2nd video) that scientists are accepting Islam (something similar anyway). To such people I say-
