How to book chalets : Best way

As some of you may know, we are a couple planning to visit Switzerland in early september, and we will stay in a chalet/home for 6 night.

Now we are not very sure about the chalet system.

On holiday-home.com and similar sites, there are chalets for 70CHF a day which have 3 rooms. So when we book, we get the whole house to ourselves?

that would be great.

Also, there are a few popular sites I found through google search, but whenever I send an enquiry, there is no response.

I guess once our visa gets finalized, and tickets sorted(somewhere around 31st July), I should just pick up the phone and call them up?

I also tried booking.com, but mostly you have apartments there in Leukerabad etc.,

Ideally, we would like to rent an independent block in some nice sceninc village, total cost inclusive of everything to be around 500CHF approx

Booking.com is funny, every day their rates change.

So what sites do you suggest, and whats the best way to contact the owners. There is a problem of advance payment also. Since many do not accept credit cards, I am wondering how to book in advance from India.

But that we can work out. The main question is that what is the best site for chalet hunting.

We would like to stay in either Bernese area just north of Valais(Lauterbrennen etc.,) or area around the Furkapasse road in valais.

I was told that higher altitude places, which are "ski" resorts would have cheaper accomodation in september since its their low season.

Its our first trip to Europe, so please excuse the newbie questions !

Maybe the MySwitzerland site has something for you: http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/home.html

Thanks, looks like the widest selection!

Try this as well:

Or maybe here..

For the past several years I have been renting apartments for a week at a time in various alpine villages (Valais and Bern). I go straight to the web site of that village's tourist office; all have a lodgings page.

In some villages there is an online booking form, in others there is a list of real estate agents. Both chalets and apartments are offered.

You may be a bit late for the best choice; I book in April for a July-August visit.

Best of luck!

Thanks!

Our visa in in process, should get it tomorrow.

We will be staying from 31st Aug to 5 sept approx (6 nights).

I hope we will find a nice isolate car accessible village in either of Grisson/Valais/Bernese Oberland/Ticono North

This seems like a good place to put this question: my husband and I were thinking of renting a chalet for us and some friends of ours who are coming from the US for New Years for 4 or 5 days. We'd like to do the whole stay in the chalet, drink hot chocolate, maybe snow shoeing or skiing thing and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for any particular properties or areas that are particularly pretty etc. We are on L. Geneva but willing to travel.

Thankfully, we have gotten a mail from a nice chalet in Grindewald, and I will be finalizing with them today.

From what I have seen on myswitzerland.com map view, most chalets in ski resorts are actually available with ease in september, however bookings are heavy around new years.

So if you chose a ski resort, get a chalet around that, and book it now!

I had to forgo many nice places, thankfully, this one is free for the exact one week!
