Welcome to the forum. Have you gone through the stickies ?

Health Insurance - Look here before asking questions please.

You can cancel anytime if you are leaving switzerland. You have to inform your local Gemeinde that you are leaving and they should supply you for with the right documents to send to Sanitas.

Make sure you send the cancellation by registered mail "Einschreiben" and keep a copy of the cancellation letter.

Good Luck!

Thank you everyone, i will get working on it. i know things like this can be a hassle.

Word of warning. I have had difficulty cancelling a policy with SANA24. Even though I did everything correctly they still do not acknowledge the fact that I am now with another company they still send me bills. I have spoken to them on several occasions without any success. It appears that they are staffed completely by people with educational difficulties. AVOID SANA24 LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!

thanks for all the advice I also need to cancel my health insurance and find it quite complicated

I had same problem with Groupe Mutuel. Apparently they wil only cancel when the new company confirms you are now covered by them. It took two registered letters Einschreiben from my new insurer to get them to acknowledge and cancel their bills. Nightmare ! But done, best thing keep on at your new insurer too, to ensure they help you out. I basically refused to pay either of the policies until one of them backed off and the old insurer had acknowledged the cancellation. I appreciate this does not apply to OP who is leaving and requires the paperwork from Gemeinde / proof of leaving CH to confirm cancellation.

You need to go to the stadhaus and get a confirmation form -- I deregistered successfully but didn't know that I had to request the additional form to send to my insurance company (stupid, I know). I was told it costs 30 CHF for this form...

Hi all,

I am currently moving from Switzerland so can give my 2 cents.

I am with Avanex and after calling them have been told to simply send in the letter from Gemeinde stating that I am leaving permanently and the payments and insurance should stop.

Hopefully it all goes smoothly. Good luck!

My daughter is leaving on 26th August to come back permanently to the UK. She is the Basel area can you please give me step by step advise how she cancels her insurance

Thank you

We are leaving shortly and wanted to share our experience with cancelling our insurance from Assura, which was much easier than I expected it to be. We emailed a pdf of our deregistration forms from Zurich, along with our policy numbers and date of departure. About a week and a half later, we received a confirmation (also electronic through the Assura customer portal). No registered mail required!
