How to check if a trademark is already taken

Hi people of this great community

I think there must be a search machine for "trademarks" for this kind of stuff, but I cannot find it online. This must be something different than "the european patent office", that I already know.

Then I suppose that this must be done separately for every country , if you want to sell the product or service in this countries, or not?

And then comes the domain.com that I need. It's already taken. Must this domain pass exactly with the name of the trademark? I've found a shorter kind of word-play version of the trademark that is available as .com. It would be something like having trademark called "instagram" on the domain "ig.com" or "insta.com" etc

Thanks for the information in advance.

I would suggest reading this website for information https://www.ige.ch/en/protecting-your-ip/trade-marks

there's also a list of search engines, sounds like you could use the madrid monitor of the WIPO

I remember reading something a while back that suggested short of a country by country search by a professional the European Patent Office was about as good as it gets from a cost point of view.

Um, the EPO has nothing to do with trademarks. Trademarks are administered by the European Trademark Office in Alicante. Search here:

https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/en

There is nothing that forces you to have the domain name match your trademark exactly.

But it is sure to cause problems in the mid-term vis-à-vis search results.

You also have to investigate as to why the domain name that matches your trademark has already been taken and rule out any conflicts.

It looks like most of the words I have in mind are free. It says: no results.

I would like to know, how much cost the reservation of a trademark+logo. If you have an idea, let me know.

Thanks. Do you know what happens if you create a website with services for Europe, America and Asia. Is it necessary to reserve the trademark in every country like with patents?

So you recommend to get trademark and domain with the same word what would be ideal. But there are so many domains that are already taken....... but as I can see the trademarks are free. Let's see what I can get.

It's difficult to understand, why you have to protect the name and logo of a company that offeres services through a website (100% digital service), and this website can be reached from every country in the world.

Are facebook, whatsapp, twitter registered in many countries? How do these companies do the registration of their trademarks?

For sure they would be registered as a trademark in most countries. They may not have done this at inception but once they starting getting big, they would have.

Recommend but not 100% necessary.

Have you checked whether the domain name is taken on all suffixes?

I've found this great search engine: https://www.tmdn.org/tmview/#/tmview

Very important is to limit your search to your category. As far as I know, a Trademark can be registered for different products at the same time ONLY If they are in different categories.

So register a "coca cola car in the US" or a "Tesla drink in the US" should be allowed, if not already.

Most of the ideas I come up with are already taken and only .net .org .ch are available.

My goal is to register a trademark + .com-domain with the same name. But before I do this, I will contact with lawers to check this up.

I think registering in de EU and US should be enough for me.
