I just tried to google this (via Tor, just to be sure..ho-ho-ho, so it used DDG anyway...) and it seems that until five years ago, it was just a question of asking for a permit.
However, since then the law has changed (by virtue of EU legislation regulating automatics and semi-automatics).

As for weapons in general, I have a collection of chef-knives and whenever there is a "knife-crime", some people seem to have the urge to regulate the ownership of those, too.
They are being regulated in other countries. The problem is that regulating those knives in Switzerland isn't as easy due to Victorinox and Switzerland's global image of quality knife-designing. Hey, I live in the vicinity of the Swiss Knife Valley.
Looks like the question ruffled a lot of feathers. Although I am a strong advocate for extremely strict gun control regulations (and no allowance for concealed carry), I see no harm in people who meet the strict criteria for gun ownership to have one, and to bring it straight to and from home and shooting range.
In my opinion it's a nice hobby (to use them in a safe and well set-up place). I see no harm either in wanting accessories for it, particularly one that makes quite a bit of sense in a range, where shooting noises are amplified by the confines of the walls. For anyone who served in the military or ever shot a gun, you know that after 10 rounds it's rather annoying. What's the harm?

Yes, thank you. It is not like you can really say that anywhere anymore these days. It is a great sport. That, chess, pool and skiing is fab for training concentration. And less noise, more focus.

You're focusing on the small stuff, about the noise itself (partly understandable, as the silencer has only one goal). But the point is: if used responsibly, why the numerous flaming responses in this thread? Are we assuming the OP is anything less than a responsible legal resident in Switzerland who has been deemed suitable by Swiss standards to hold a fire arm?
Yeap, that. For anyone who never shot a fire arm or hasn't thought about it, shooting is also about precision, concentration, body control, etc, to allow you to hit a paper target's bullseye measuring 3.5cm from a 300 meter distance (or 8cm from a 600 meters distance).
I think it's representative of a general view, perhaps especially outside the US, that guns are not toys. It's clear that the OP views them as such, e.g. so the reactions to his posts are not surprising.
I typically wear earplugs AND ear defenders when shooting which is more than adequate to reduce noise. I had once looked into getting a silencer not for my own ear protection, but to reduce noise emitted so as not to disturb (or alarm!) neighbours (I constructed a shooting range in the cellar).
However, aside from the legal aspects there are other downsides to silencers:
- change in weight/feel of the pistol when shooting
- change in recoil profile
- change in muzzle velocity
- potential overheating
- pretty much pointless unless you're using subsonic ammo
in the end, i decided it was not worth it.
you can actually buy a kind of large sound insulated tube which you shoot through, but since this is open at both ends, i suspect it isn't that effective. might as well just try to soundproof the entire room.
OK, I see where you're coming from, and I can understand it.
Maybe we need to take the original statements with a grain of salt . I am also a musician, and have a few instruments at home. And tons of accessories. So I could relate to the OP's statement of "pimping the tool", e.g. buying cases/gigbags, different tuners and knobs, different cables, etc. I didn't read that he would literally thing of his guns as toys.
