How to obtain US tax software

Dear Expats

This is my first post, so please bear with me. If the question has been discussed in the past, just point me to the thread.

Lately, both Turbotax and H&R Block require a US credit card and a US State to download their tax software. I do not have the former. As I refuse to do the tax return on paper, I try to purchase the software package through e.g. Ebay at double the price making me feel like a second class citizen.

How do you get to your tax software?

Thanks so much,

Richard

Hi again,

any feedback would be very appreciated.

Thank you so much,

Richard

Forget US Tax outside of America. Believe me! Its useless!

What do you mean? Not to use a US tax SW? Not to submit tax returns? Please explain.

Thanks,

Richard

Try running a VPN and choose the US as the location. You should be able to download it. Use Paypal as payment.

Unless they changed for this year Turbotax does not take Paypal. They require a US credit card with a US address.

My suggestion: If you have a friend in the US have them create an account with your email address, then they buy turbotax, and have them forward you the email for the download. You can then pay them back.

Thanks so much for your replies.

As I don't used TT, but H&R, I'll try it using VPN as suggested. Unfortunately, I don't have such a good friend back there as I've been in CH for the past 20+ years.

Again, thanks so much,

Richard

Do you have any family in the US? I am guessing H&R is the same as TT.

Thanks @MegsB, that's the key.
