How to prepare to B2 exam?

I live in Luzern and I want to prepare myself for exam B2.

1. Is it better to enroll in a language school or take private lessons?

2. Does the Luzern canton have support to learn german?

Are you on b2 level and just want to practice the exam? If yes, there are 'exam preparation' courses focusing on that specifically.

If not, then it might take some time to get to that level, and (at least in my experience) if you go for a normal course, exam preparation is included towards the end.

I always did them in small groups - never alone - it was ok.

Actually, Im going through the same thing at the moment. I believe I am B2 (at least spoken, maybe lagging a little bit in some areas on the written) and I want to do the exam.

Im wondering if I should do a dedicated course or just try and work online. I have found some courses that Im evaluating in Zurich where I am based (migrosklub schule, professonal language center and language masters are the 3 Im looking at). Cheapest averaging at about 1400, upto 2k plus.

Now Im looking into if I can just do the study online and do the exam on my own.

Havent finished my research yet to be honest. The course is obviously the more structured but more expensive route.

I had level B2 when I finished high school, then did not speak or read German for 15 years.

In that situation, all it took was exposure to German here and work on my own, with a textbook, to get back to that level.

However, if I were to go for C1 - a level I had never had - I would definitely take a course. It makes you work in a structured way and you will see your blind spots among other people.

Either way I'd propose the following (both me and my husband got 90+ on Goethe)

1. Go trough Goethe's most commonly used words lists - they have a list for each level

2. Do a couple of online tests to see if you're missing and grammer and try to memorize and practice

3. Check standard writing and oral test topics and prepare generic sentences that you can use with small adaptations
