How to watch NBA games live?

I really hope to not be the only one following this fantastic league and probably one of the most beautiful sports in the world.

I started following NBA when I was just a kid (11) and since then I've always been a fan of the Houston Rockets, at the time playing with Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Robert Horry, Sam Cassell etc...

Now the team is pretty different but I'm still hoping to follow the Rockets again.

I was very excited by the idea that Cablecom offered within the sports&more package NASN, but here is the bad news: they didn't get the rights for the season 2007/2008.

Now this is a big disappointment as I think it's the first year that something like this happens.

Then I found (for miracle or what) that Sportitalia signed an agreement to broadcast *daily* during the late afternoon NBA matches almost every day, and LISTEN LISTEN, broadcast NBA TV completely from 1am to 7am. Prohibitive time but with the recorder it shouldn't be a problem.

I look at the tagesprogram of Cablecom and Sportitalia is listed within the italian package.

Great, I say.

A short look at the italian package reveals that Sportitalia is not listed. How that can be, I say? I query a colleague of mine whose subscribed to the italian package and he confirms Sportitalia is there, or at least, it was.

Call Cablecom, Sportitalia is available only in Ticino and no more in the german canton. They say it's impossible that my friend could receive it in Zurich.

I think to not desperate that probably some other TV station on the Cablecom bouquet would offer NBA... no luck. It looks to me a joke that when I finally have my own apartment and get NASN, this decides not to take the rights for the running season.

Only the Teleclub package offers NBA but at a very high cost: 40 CHF per months for the basic channels and THEN you can access the sport package for around 9 CHF more. Too much I would say.

My balcon faces a tall building so I don't think I would be able to get Satellite signal, and even then, I would prefer to not mount any dish since my landlady could show opposition to that.

Is anyone looking to get NBA here in Zurich? Did you find something more than me?

Anyway, for those with the satellite pointed on Hotbird 13 or Eutelsat, could you please check if you receive Sportitalia and if the NBA programming is not scrambled. At least that could give some hope.

Thanks

Fabio

There should be more NCAA hoops on NASN this year without the NBA. It's not quite the same action, but it can still be fun to watch. You might also want to keep an eye on ORF1 and ORF2, which sometime show some American sports. They've shown some NFL games in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised to see an NBA game or two there.

I follow the pistons very close and have been able to torrent games. They dont have every game but its a nice treat when they have rip, billups and sheeeeeed ready for me.

I share your disappointment over NASN. Not as disappointed as I am with the sixers performance over the last dozen years, but still disappointed.

I dont know how I'll watch the eastern conference do nothing again this year. It promises to be a whole new level of disappointment as the celtics show their age and fall apart midseason, and the pistons succumb once more to a far inferior team in the playoffs (no offense jeff).

heck, the nba is probably half the reason i moved to switzerland. of course, i'm still missing it.

does league pass still have an on-line option? couldnt tell from the website. and as a sixers fan, i probably wont need it this year.

looks like this NBA season will be played out on my xbox.

Try this:

This is the site I use to watch NHL, seems to be ok.

so there is no internet streaming sold by the NBA (like NFL and MLB)? I suppose NBA sells more European rights than NFL/MLB thus may not be possible

I have it on good advice that NBA will potentially be entering into a direct-sales-via-internet model soon. And NCAA is far more exciting.

Thanks very much to Jeffry, those torrents seem to have good seeders. I'm downloading a match now, hope the video quality won't be disappointing. jawbraker I don't follow NBA since a long time due to continous travelling and living in places where NBA is not followed at all, not mentioning TV coverage. So, I don't really know what's the actual status of the Rockets, but surelly the team is completely different from the one I was following 6-7 years ago. But I don't care, there's something that ties me up with the Rockets and even if they will be the last team of the Conference I will still be with them.

Back to the TV topic, this year Sportitalia is going to stream a match per day and the whole night NBA TV... it leaves me baffled And it's even more astonishing that since a few weeks Cablecom broke the contract with them. Reason? Unknown.

Is there a curse that everywhere I go I can't follow NBA?

I've just seen this on a forum (sorry for the italian):

The bold text is the relevant one. It seems like that NBA TV will be streammed by the new IPTV platform of Tiscali starting by the end of November. Commentary will be in the original language, therefore English.

It's all to discover if this IPTV platform will be something that will be offered only to their DSL/Cable subscribers or to any user on the Internet, but it sounds interesting indeed.

Seems like it is Lakers' Showtime again. Kobe is on fire, Gasol has his game on, and they swept the Denver Nuggets. I've yet to see Gasol play, but the highlight clips sure make him look good. Does anyone have any idea how we can watch the games from here?

they swept the Enver Nuggets as there is no D

This website has been posted on EF before about US sports. I've never tried it though.

Click on Basketball at the top and then the day of the week. Looks like Sunday they are showing some NBA games although the times are not the best for those of us living in Switzerland.

Looks like live streaming will start at around midnight tonight. Unfortunately, it doesn't look compatible on my Mac. The torrent files also don't work. I think I'll have to go deeper underground, or find an unused slingbox somewhere.

Thx.

That's too bad. I also have a Mac so I guess I won't try this website in the future. Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully you'll find something else! Good Luck!

Funny!!!!!!!!

I'm able to find a forum on how to get the NBA in Switzerland, but I can't get the NBA in Switzerland, DAMN.

I'm from LA and of course I'm a fan of the correct team there, no jokes please, I don't want to know how Shaq's azz tastes, but hey purple and gold is how I go.

I've tried everything even the Myp2p, but my cpu sucks bad and I'm picking up a mac in a few days so i guess i'm screwing myself even further.

I would have to say NASN does provide plenty of quality basketball, but you have to be a purist to appreciate it, I guess.

Let's not be too greedy, we get great NFL action as well, and we all know the NBA season is mundane til after the allstar break.

But hey, if someone knows, let me know!!!!!!!!!

And for the Houston fan, Rafer makes the team move.

And to the Piston fan, man this some gooood sheeeeeeeeed!

Holla at ya boy

I'm local and love American sports, I play them all, even tennis

so let's hook up and get a league of some sorts going.

you name the sport, but I don't play hockey!

Its nice to see the Clippers have spread their empire overseas. If Camby ever gets past denial, anger, bargaining, and depression to acceptance, he and the Baron might be able to get some work done and redefine "correct team".

Joking aside, welcome to the forum, and please let us know if you find a decent way to watch next season. I decided to go with a Hava (slingbox) but the quality is not great for live sports.

Just posted this in the NHL thread, might be worth having a look around and seeing if they're doing a similar thing for next season's NBA.
