Hi, has it ever happened to you that when several people were walking in a line, the first one suddenly stopped walking and the others bumped into each other? Do you remember the biggest incident like that?
Sorry, but Friday was yesterday…
Happens to me regularly at major transportation hubs, specially those frequented by tourists with phones, selfie sticks …
I try to be aware of my surroundings at all times so it doesn’t happen to me.
No, I don’t follow people while breathing on their necks.
Not walking, but it happens sometimes on supermarket escalators… I’m always wary of idiots who get to the top, step off, and immediately stop to get their bearings. Have had to push people out of the way several times.
Oh, and once when I came home the far end of the travelator at Geneva airport (just before passport control) was completely blocked with people due to a crowd already queuing at the one open window; the more agile were able to jump over the barriers to avoid being caught up in the crush, the less supple were trapped.
Took several minutes before someone found the emergency Stop button and a crush incident avoided.
That area is a nasty accident waiting to happen.
That particular one is almost always off these days.
Admittedly it’s been a while since I braved flying…
The thought of people piling up makes me think of the terrible tragedy that happened going down into Bethnal Green tube station during and air raid in WW2. I believe someone tripped and fell on the stairs in the panic and confusion, people then started falling on top of each other and 173 were killed including 60 children. 1943.
