Hi all, I am about to move out of my rented flat into a different flat. I have lived here for 3 years and generally kept the place in pristine conditions.
I have recently discovered, upon moving my bed, that there is a large humidity stain on a wall corner, due to structural issues as that corner wall is under the ground and the ground's humidity must have gradually seeped in.
When I mentioned this to my landlord, he said that it was a recurring problem he already had in the past and that it would be solved by repainting. It was unclear whether he expected me to repaint the flat before moving out or not.
I wanted to ask here if, based on your experience of the Swiss rental rules, I should be liable to pay for repainting that corner, given that the problem is structural and not caused by me?
I will ask the landlord but I wanted to get some inputs here first before I approach him. Many thanks for your advice.
I would ask your landlord first, because if there is mold there (and it looks like there might be -- especially the black stuff), then it needs to be treated first, before being painted.
Otherwise, you could just spray it with a mixture of bleach and water*, wipe it and let that dry and then paint it, but the paint quite likely won't match the rest of the wall.
* When a painting company came to paint over a mold patch on one of our walls, that's what they did -- they sprayed it with a mixture of bleach and water first and wiped that down. Then let it dry and then repainted it.
P.S. Not sure if this applies to you, but one of the very common wall colors used for apartments here in CH is RAL-9010, which you can buy pre-mixed at OBI in various sizes.
