Hydrogel ('solid rain') needed.... [issue almost solved]

(x-post from gardening thread, apologies)

Can someone pls help?

I urgently need to solve a water infiltration issue and need to find hydrogel powder that is used e.g. to make those rubbery decorative "pearls" that you often find in flower vases, or to mix with plant soil to absorb excess water.

(just to give an idea 1gr of hydrogel powder absorbs 50x its weight in liquids)

I've called Brico, Coop, some florists but apparently it is a mystery substance here in CH?

Found one supplier on amazon.it but they deliver only in 2 weeks' time

Any help is really very appreciated

Cheers

Paul

______

Are you looking for "Superabsorber"?

Yep.

I also remember that this powder is bagged and used as an absorbent barrier in case of floods, etc

Seems to be unobtainium here in CH? Shouldn't be toxic / poisonous or anything.

Paul

Is this for use in a garden?

Usually the best approach is to address the infiltration issue.

Try these folks ? Looks like delivery shouldn't take longer than a few days if even that. Just don't ask me how much overpriced they are.

Also available on ebay.de (looks like €10 for 500g) though delivery to Switzerland may be an issue. Perhaps contact the seller directly.

Yes the infiltration issue needs to be addressed asap (water running down the antenna tube) but given the bad weather not much we can doc right now.

Thx

P.

Thank you for that!

Owe you a beer for the help!

Cheers

Paul

If you don't need so much, and you're desparate, Pampers contain superabsorbent gel. It's pretty much the same stuff except it'll have a tighter impurity spec.

AND it will def be more expensive as well. Bought 1kg from the site mentioned above in order to address the immediate emergency.

Will keep you posted re. the outcome of this "emergency hack"

Thank you all,

Paul
