I live above a brothel!!

I found out after I took the apartment as it is discreetly hidden in the garage entrance. Cracks me up when I see the men coming out avoiding eye contact

I always say a big loud "Gruezi"

Still haven't seen the women yet....do they ever come up for air???

Thankfully no one has rung my doorbell yet asking for the "ladies".

Address please?

Party at Mimi's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is alot of people who are brought into switzerland by force they are locked in 24 hours a day and are forced to do very bad things i suggest you report it to the police they could be minors who are in a really bad state.

The estate agents were a bit naughty not disclosing that, could you not negotiate a rent reduction?

Just wait. There are men out there with a poor sense of direction or bad vision! In my experience they'll show up knocking on your door just after dark.

I second that.

It's weird that you've never seen the ladies.

I would report and I would move out as well Yukk!

Or at least an EF discount?

(not for me of course)

You should - they probaby shower past 10 PM as well... Nevermind the noise.....

I guess they value their privacy as well and don't want to be seen by everyone living there.. Plus they usually dress up when they go outside...

How did you find out 100%? or is it a 99% guess?

No point in reporting it unless you have some indication of criminal activity. Prostitution is legalised and licensed in Switzerland.

Reporting a legal brothel is just wasting police time.

It's a legal brothel that is registered and above board so no reason to call the coppers. I also see no reason to move out. I mean, come on, I'm in a block of 25 apartments so there's always going to be some form of hanky panky going on, just not in my apartment . Plus I get a laugh watching these blokes emerge at 5pm and look highly embarrassed

I had a feeling they'd be a few requests for invites over

Castro, I'm not worried about the rent reduction. The apartment itself and location is perfect and I love it. For a brit I'm not very prudish

How does one (or you!) know it is legal? Is there a register?

If you report it, the least the police can do is check and say, "yup it all checks out" and leave it at that. Hardly a big waste of time. No?

We had this exact same situation for several years where I work; there was a high-class operation across the hall from us. Very weird being sized up in the elevator on the way up...they've since moved on, but I still always take the stairs .

Endles hours of entertainment from the customer traffic - it's a miracle we got any work done at all - especially as several semi-prominent (well, in Switzerland at least) people visited the establishment.

Mimi, it was the same here: we didn't see the women for ages, but enjoyed making the men cringe ;-)

While brothels and prostitution may be legal, I imagine that slavery and imprisonment is not... is it?

So, perhaps there is a way to report that while one isn't bothered by the brothel per se, they are alarmed that they've never seen the "residents" enter or leave the premises and that perhaps, it would be worth a look-see just to be sure everyone is alright.

On the other hand, there certainly is more than one reason why one may see only males entering and leaving...

Perhaps it is not only the clientele which is all male.

Not necessarily. When I was living in Niederdorf my back window overlooked a yard where they sometimes came out for a smoke dressed in nothing but a dressing gown or wrapped in a bathing towel. Actually, they semed to spend more time smoking than doing anything else. And when they were talking they always seemd to be bad mouthing whichever one that wasn't there at that moment. Strange people.

com'on....drop some names

Or they simply might have a second exit at the back or into the garage, so that the ladies do not have to use the front...

I believe reporting it to the police without the slightest evidence of anything illegal is like calling the Dutch police to tell them that people smoke weed in a coffee shop.

It's good you live above it and not below.

As far as I'm aware, the licensed brothels are tightly regulated and the people who work there are doing so by their own choice and often making good money. It's clearly a controversial and risky career choice but a legal one none the less. I saw several newspaper reports and TV documentaries confirming this.

If you want to contribute to the fight against illegal prostitution of vunerable people then you should be supporting the strict licensing and policing of these registered establishments, rather than reporting them. I'm sure that your Gemeinde would be able to answer any questions you have about the legal status of a specific business.
