I am a newcomer to this page My husband found a job in Geneva, six months ago and he is living there now and from 6 months ago I started looking for a job in Geneva, lausanne, Bern, Zurich in image processing, machine learning, data scientist, computer vision, data analyst but I got rejected or didn't get any answer in most of the jobs I applied for
Since I just speak in english and portuguese I find it frustrating to find a job there without knowing french or german languages. I am good at my job and I have good knowledge about image processing and machine learning (I know Matlab, Python and a bit C++) even I got invited to Google interview!
I check adecco.ch, jobs.ch, monster.ch, ineed.ch, linkedin every day for new jobs and I improve my CV and networking by:
- I started learning french language.
- I start networking from 6 months ago using linkedin.
- I created a webpage and put my code samples there. (to show that I have a programming skills!)
- I am active member in linkedin.
- I update my knowledge about image processing and machine learning constantly by learning new techniques.
- I sent formal emails with my updated CV to companies related to my area and asked them if they have or will have open position which I could apply.
I really do appreciate if you could help me what else I can do to find a job in my area in Switzerland??

The best you can do is learn one of the local languages.
If you plan to stay where your husband's job is, you'll need French. If you want to venture further, German would be the language you need.
Seriously, get starting on one, while you are looking for a job. It will pay off in the long run .

What is you level of education?
I have Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering
So the obvious question is, do you want to do a Ph.D.? Academia will not care that you don't speak French or German. Pay here is 45'000 CHF per year for a full time student. There's a fair number of labs at EPFL that might be interested if you visited them. Of course, being overqualified is always a potential issue down the road, and academia is basically a pyramid scheme. In general I think most real jobs in machine vision are with high-tech manufacturing, so I'm not sure where that is here in Switzerland.
I don't know EPFL well, but I can suggest names of people to try and visit (I would suggest going there physically and try to find group leaders in person; just because they aren't advertising doesn't mean they don't have money). You could probably arrange a deal to telecommute some days, depending on what you are doing.
In Basel, I know of open Ph.D. student positions.
Also I'll point out that Grenoble, France is a major high-tech center as well, and about as close to Geneve as Zurich (~ 2 hours by train). The pay is about half, but the living expenses are half too. It's very hard to get a permanent job in France but relatively easy to get a 18-month contract.
If you’re still in Portugal as your location says, that could be part of the problem. You need to be on the spot here, easily available for interviews. It also would tell employers that by being a resident here you already have the right to work as well. Not usually a big problem for EU nationals if they don’t, but it may sway an employer to see on you CV that you have a Swiss permit already rather than them having to wait for you to get here, get settled in and organise your permit. Given the recent vote to curb immigration, no matter how the Federal government goes about implementing that in the future I think employers are tending to look for people who are already living here to employ as that is what the whole initiative is designed to encourage: employ Swiss people and others who already live here rather than looking to Europe and the rest of the world. Being able to state on your CV that you have a Swiss permit could make the difference.
I don’t know how much of your area of expertise can be done with only English as the language, but agree that learning French as quickly and thoroughly as you can will only help your chances.

I would definitely change your CV to use your husband's address in Switzerland. And then just keep looking!! 6 months is not that much. I've seen many take a year to 18 months to find a job.
Getting rejected or ignored for so long is really disheartening. But there is no magic solution.

Thank you for your message I don't want to continue my education in PhD I knew about EPFL and open position there for PhD but since I am not interested in continuing my education I didn't look to it.

I currently live in Portugal since Switzerland is more expensive than Portugal (cost of living) and also I don't have a job there (I am currently working in Portugal) because of that I didn't join my husband. But it seems I may consider moving there for a while to find a job!

Hi - from personal experience and that of colleagues it can take a long time to find a job in Geneva (in IT in any case), even when one has all the necessary skills, the experience (local and otherwise), the languages and the permit. It can be a frustratingly small market!
Yes move to Switzerland!!! Keep at the French all the time. In the meantime, your best bet is Nestle in Vevey or a multi-national company anywhere along Lake Leman. Travel time is at most one hour up to Montreux. Also Johnson and Johnson would be a good fit. I would guess that multi-nationals conduct their business in English.

As said before, your background is very specialized, and the amount of companies doing this is Switzerland is not that large, in my opinion. I think in that area (very close to mine and to my girlfriend's) finding a job is difficult if you don't have some contact. My little advice is: Try to find a position in a University, not for PhD, but as Research Assistant, Software Developer, etc. As said, languages are not a big barrier in Academy. Maybe a one-year contract for some Swiss or EU project, for example. There you can know people, and put on your CV some previous experience in Switzerland.

Once I applied for a position there, got a rejection but 3 weeks later they contacted me asking if still interested for other position they had. But I had already accepted other thing. So try.

There are lots of companies in Switzerland in your technical field who could use your skills and experience, and most of them will be happy to work with you in English. The problem is how to find them, and how to get the timing right. That's where you will have to do lots of research and approach lots of companies. Probably need to contact fifty or a hundred carefully-chosen companies, each with a custom-written CV.
