IB results ZIS vs ISZL

From what I have seen and heard, ZIS and ISZL offer similar programmes at the lower school levels. I am interested to know what happens when they sit for their final IB exams at the end of their 12th year. What are the scores and University placements. I have checked their websites but sometimes personal feedback adds the detail which is ever important. Thank you.

I know ISZL has this link that might have the info you need: http://www.iszl.ch/uploaded/ISZL_Pub...-14_Hi_Res.pdf

I know both schools; our kids attended ISZL first and after some time abroad we decided to put kids into ZIS upon our return.

You can contact ZIS for their university profile, to get their results. Or go to their website and download the profile from http://www.zis.ch/page.cfm?p=2562 .

Results are not everything, a school also has to match a child's personality but I am very happy we chose ZIS for middle and high school rather than ISZL. The upper school has a demanding curriculum and their IB results were great in the last few years. You might hear form parents from the past, where the IB programme needed a lot of changes but those have been implemented and the school can be very proud of their results. For example, the second year in a row, an IB student has been admitted to Dartmouth.

ZIS, as a larger school, can offer students a much larger variety of courses, including offering the option of IB online courses if the scheduled does not fit the course selection of a student or a particular course is not offered. They do not allow just any student this option but strictly assess a students' capability before allowing him to choose such a course.

Just fyi, we have three students who went through the systems at both schools and can only highly recommend ZIS.

Thank you Busy Bee. We visited both the schools, in lower grades I think it is more or less the same. But I did check the IB results for both schools and while ISZL has given 3 years in a row, in general it was average, while ZIS has given just for 2013 and it was great. My concern of course was if this was a fluke year but I am glad to know from your post that they have had consistently good results in the last few years. Thank you very much for sharing.

I know this is obvious but its not just about the school its about the individual teachers, if they're crap then there is little you have a new challange

EDIT

Sorry let me clarify. My daughter went to a private school (she is now in the local one) and the range of teaching ability in the private school was massive: from excellent to downright incompetent.

good luck!

I used to work at ISZL so know both schools really well. Considering that there isn't an entrance exam for either both have very good IB results (above the world average). ISZL hasn't run the IB for as long - but many of the faculty have taught the IB courses for a number of years before being hired to work there.

I would honestly say both a good schools and that there isn't much in it. ZIS used to be much bigger, but I think they are about the same size now with much the same course offerings and facilities.

I think it may be more difficult to get your son/daughter into ZIS as they have a longer waiting list. But I think both schools have some sort of deal with the big companies in the area so it all depends who you'll be working for. I taught students who moved from ISZL to ZIS purely because there parents decided to move closer to Zurich and were very happy at ISZL, and also very happy at ZIS when I met them a few years later.

Coming back to pure academic results I know of students at both schools who have achieved exceptional results over the last 3 years (40+ points), and weaker students who have done as well.

Hope that helps.

Oops - some typos in that.

I meant - weaker students who also did well.
