The summer is coming and camping season will also starts soon. We are a family with 2 small kids but not so much experience in camping. We would like to search for any camping place which is close to the beach or lake and not so cray expensive, in Switzerland or France, Italy, ofcourse close to the border only (around maximum 12 hours driving from middle switzerland). We had some bad experience by looking in the website and the reality was not so good, too strong waves from the sea, or the beach is rocky, not good for the children... And we don't really have time to try every camping place which looks quite good from the websites. If any one had some good experience somewhere then please share with me. Thank you!
There is a big one at the Walensee which is worth a visit - the lake is calm and the beach isn't too bad.
I camped in Italy last year - at the southern end of the Lago Orta (not marked on google) which was clean. The lake beach opposite has an entry fee.
Further south I stayed at Zocca - no beach, no sea - but great views around the area - and the owner had "local" (no label) artisane beer - it was bloody lovely.
It has the lake, swim/beach area, and other stuff, I always cut through there to swim in the lake

These are big organisations, if they state there is a sandy beach, then it will be sandy. Waves come with bad weather, you cannot change that.
I can reccommend these 2 sites as being suitable,

French campsites are generally cheaper than those in Italy or Switzerland
Very true, about half as much. Some nice camping in the Alsace, or the French side of Lake Geneva.

I would suggest they are more for a weekend away, though, rather than a longer holiday.

Gorgeous, cheap, safe swimming, loads of space, and you can book last minute.
We plan to go camping for 3 weeks, it would be ok in any situation for only us adult, but with small kids it is different, they may not have place to play, enjoy and would be bored, it's also a relaxing time for us so we really just want peace, don't have to run after them every step to avoid danger.
We have been in and highly recommand for those who doesn't know yet
http://www.camping-latama.com/de/ a very nice place with sand beach, quite big waves and cold sea water when the weather was not good, but normally sunny and beautiful, specially private but close to the city, just take the small ferry for 2 minutes and you are on the other site of the canal, with everyday market, plenty of different things, from foods to clothes, and just by car for 10 minutes to a huge shopping place.
We were also in Gadarsee, stayed in http://www.campingsanbiagio.net/en/ but it was not so exciting for more than 1 week, the beach was more stone than sand, not so practical for children to walk or play, quite far from others places for activities, but absolute good for bigger children and couples, because it is the last camping place from this site. I would prefer to stay in http://www.campingrioferiengluck.com/english.html for my children, but this year we would like to experience another place.
We have been also in locarno, tessin, and this camping is just perfect http://www.lidomappo.ch/ but ofcourse expensive.
Another camping place in Tessin maybe good for bigger children or couple is http://www.campingbellavista.ch/
There are a lot of activities can be done around this camping place like hiking, visiting villages around or waterfall...
The best one have 4-5*, they have own websites and there is no problem to see all photos and conditions.
In my opinion good destinations with kids are Corse and South of France close Nice and Marseille.
Here is a link to their site to give you a better idea; http://www.tcs.ch/de/reisen-camping/...vaux-plage.php
Enjoy the great weather!!

Very kid friendly place! You can also bring your dog/cat too! You can also have open fires with is rare in Switzerland. Also for camping there is no "typical designated square pitch" and your free to pitch your tent where ever you want
FYI- the Treehouse/ Jurta/ and tee pees book up quick as it's becoming a popular place to camp in summer!
