IKEA Dietlikon... terrible experience with the Montageservice.

Well, this is my first complaint thread in a LONG time, but I guess IKEA have now fulfilled all of the criteria...

Part 1

Around two months ago I order a fair amount of furniture from IKEA. The delivery and build day arrived and despite the guys turning up very late, the building was done. All except the sideboard. The issue was that the IKEA assistant in store had ordered the wrong size frames (INREDA shuhbladen rahmen 7cm, 901.812.23) for the draws, and they were way too small. The Montageservice guys basically said there was no point building them and that I should contact IKEA to swap the parts and rebuild with the correct parts (INREDA shuhbladen rahmen Gross, 901.057.19).

Part 2

I then contact IKEA to tell them the parts were too small and to please arrange redelivery. So after another 3 WEEK wait (seriously, 3 weeks) and numerous calls to chase them, I am finally contacted by the IKEA montage company for a new appointment to finish the sideboard. At this point I have already discussed two or three times on the phone the problem with the IKEA helpline, including last week to double-check things were ok, and they assure me they will bring the correct parts. The Montageservice person also tells me the same, they will bring the correct parts. Ok, fine.

Part 3

The Montageservice man arrives yesterday. So what do I find? HE BROUGHT NO PARTS AND COULD NOT FINISH THE SIDEBOARD. I asked him why he did not bring the right parts and he could not give me any normal answer, just that he had instructions to finish the sideboard. He then called his boss while standing next to me, and then hilariously the boss called IKEA and they told him I had the correct parts.

I then had to call customer service myself to get them to check the part numbers, and then they then confirmed, once more, that I DID indeed have the wrong parts, and they then gave me the correct part number, which I then gave to the man, who then said he would arrange another appointment in 2-3 weeks!

Summary:

Seriously, this is not rocket science. We are not splitting the atom here. It is one sideboard, built to a specific formula, that does not have the correct parts. Now, after over 1 months and numerous calls to IKEA, this is still not fixed.

When you pay for the convenience of delivery and Montageservice you kind of expect things like this to be taken care of in good time, and not having to wait for so long. I am even having to chase them through their Facebook page in order to try and get them to fix it this weekend.

Absolutely terrible service that I cannot recommend to anyone else, and I hope they at least give me some kind of compensation in the form of a nice voucher or something.

Anyone else had these kind of problems with IKEA?

Rich.

I would demand a complete refund of delivery and assembly costs. You could have got a band of trained chimpanzees to make a better job of it.

Reads to me the problem is ikea and not the 3rd party assembly company.

like a 25% discount on the next montage service?

I really feel for you, Richdog. As you say, it ' s not that hard a job and yet they can ' t get it right.

The first time and the last time I went to IKEA Dietlikon was some ten years ago. Says how much I like the place...

I would definitely push to get some fees refunded. What an annoyance! Usually IKEA has really good customer service - perhaps a face to face visit is in order (not sure how much of a pain that is)

I think I am going there tomorrow with my neighbor who just ordered the wrong bed and it was too late to change the order when she realized. I believe they are coming today to put together the other stuff - I hope her experience is better!

Agreed, it's just overall very bad communication on IKEA's part, but some of the blame also goes to the 3rd party company as I also talked to them on the phone beforehand.

I really, really don't want to go there again in person... if they cant fix it via telephone with the right part number the they may as well give up!

Hope your neighbour has a better experience.

Pop into the Aubone store, Ingvar Kamprad can often be found in the restaurant there eating meatballs.

A quiet word might help.

On my way now.

One of the glass panel on our huge wardrobe sliding door got shattered by the transport/montageservice guys. All perfectly fine panels had to go back. So after initial wait of 3-4 weeks we had to wait another 1-2 weeks for the whole set to arrive. Other stuff could not get assembled either....

End result was that we slept 5 weeks on the floor surrounded by boxes. Makes you appreciate the bed so much more. My heart really goes out to poor people of the world who do that every night. Lottery of life is cruel.

Will I shop at IKEA again? Hell ya! Best bang for the buck in a land surrounded by pretentious over priced furniture. Although I am not moving again...unless leaving in a coffin or if the whole building comes down

Odd... why did they not build the rest of the stuff while waiting for the wardrobe? Making a customer wait 5 weeks, and all the time sleeping on the floor, just seems unbelievable!

Did you ask for any compensation?

The initial wait was for all stuff to arrive, stuff went out of stock including the panels.

Then the breakage of the panels resulted in another 2 weeks wait for the replacement panels Problem was lack of space to assemble. Long story man and frankly I want to forget that time lol

Edit- No compensation.

I love putting Ikea stuff together.. me in my white overalls, tools neatly arranged, instructions spread on the floor, cup of strong tea and biscuits (on the way) and 95.8 Capital Radio blaring in the background.

Makes me feel like a proper Geezer

Me too! I cannot imagine paying somebody to take the fun away from me.

Although I'm a bit more like : empty everything in a big mess, open a beer, throw away the instructions and get stuck in.. Then later go search the kids playroom for the missing screws that they stole while 'helping'.

My 4 yr old daughter loves to get stuck with an allen key, manages half way in then goes for a drink of milk for extra strength

*and sometimes dismantle half of what I built because I didn't follow the instructions.

Me too, I even offer my friends to build it for them!

What I don't understand is how long the delivery is in Switzerland. This is crazy!

In Barca, they deliver the same day or the day after. So why there is such a huge difference on this?

Depends on your delivery area. If you live within the catchment area it's pretty much within three days but if you live outside of that, and particularly if you live in the end of nowhere, the delivery options are less frequent.

For us, we ordered something on a Saturday and they asked us to pick a time on that Monday for delivery.

The answer of course is to avoid IKEA and go to Möbel Pfister and buy proper stuff like good Swiss citizens do. You will be offered the item within 1 to 3 months delivery time, never from stock if it is a newly made item. I imagine you will only do this once!

I have come to accept that IKEA buys items in the 1,000s to enable them to offer the lower prices, and it cannot always supply the right parts at the right time.

I wanted a simple standing lamp for my daughter at Christmas. There were none in Lyssach near Bern, delivery expected in 8 weeks time. But they had 30 in Aubonne near Lausanne on special offer.... so I went to Aubonne.

Don't forget that IKEA does not itself deliver nor assemble, they offer partners that will do this.

Nope, it is imo pointless to buy expensive furniture from Pfister or wherever to fit an apartment that you know you will not be settling down in for a very long time.

I will for sure move apartments again in a couple of years, upon which time I will have an entirely new room size, layout, requirements, etc etc.

IKEA does the job at a cheaper price, but you still pay a fair amount for delivery and assembly, and the service should reflect that.

You'd think that. But Pfister can be as bad or worse. We bought some shelving and a vitrine, beds from Pfister. The beds were put together incorrectly, the shelving took 3 tries and a lot of screaming (the assemblers and the guy back in lyss at each other). We bought wardrobes from IKEA - also 3 visits. We bought a sofa and bed frame and an entertainment center from Möbel Märki or what ever. That was correct the first time. so who knows?

I thought he was being sarcastic....
