Can you get an IKEA Family card in store on the day, or do you have to order it in advance? And does anyone know if you can use a UK IKEA Family card in Switzerland? They look exactly the same.
We will need to buy some furniture on a quick trip in January, and I want to make sure we get any discounts available.
Does anyone know if you can order and reserve online and pick up at the Aubonne store? My French isn't great and I can't tell on the website. Could call them I guess
Any help appreciated
Your Uk card is not vallid here, however you can request a Card that will be posted out to your Swiss address within 2 weeks time.
I'm not sure but on the form you fill out there is a "temporary " card that allows you to save money already with your first purchase.
To be sure, you can also pre order your card online, it will be posted to you so you will have it before the shopping day.
Here is the link to register for a new card, at no cost what so ever. :

Once you have the real card, it allows you free coffee
* i am not affiliated with Ikea, nor do i work for them , if i do then they don't pay me..*
Thanks, got the card! Any thoughts on reserving for pickup, so I can be sure they have what I want?
Sadly enough no, i always steer away from reserving, for example if they don't have it in Pratteln i just get it in the other branch (Dietikon).
Does your branch have another one near you?
You can try contacting them , Pratteln has loads of English speaking people working there.. I can only hope the same rules apply for Pratteln as for your branch but being Ikea you better check it.
I like to pick the stuff myself if i can ( unless its the bigger things you have to collect in the other warehouse), so i can see if there is any damage on the packaging..saves me driving twice to return and swap it.
We will go to Aubonne outside Lausanne, I'm not sure there is another nearby. I can check the stock before we go
Thanks for your help
There is a "newish" IKEA in Vernier, south west Geneva:
http://www.ikea.com/ch/fr/store/vernier/ ... and the IKEA north of Berne isn't too far from Aubonne, http://www.ikea.com/ch/fr/store/lyssach/
Agreed, you cannot reserve, but isn't it possible to buy stuff and collect it later?
Is the Family card free? If i just translated the german ikea page correctly it says it is.
yes it is free and they are not very well placed in store, so you need to hunt for it. I usually find them near the customer service points (like in kitchen or office). You get free coffee etc in store using that temporary card and fill it out to post back for your plastic one later. The discount start as soon as you got the temp one.
Don't know why i didn't get one sooner! I just registered online and got the temp card already. Who wants to go to Ikea?
You have two possibilities for the card. You can fill out a "application" with a pen and leave it in the box or you can directly get a plastic card (the real one) from the card "distributor" machine. You will see that you can fill in all of your details on screen then you confirm ok. The card is done immediately.
The distributor in Aubonne is near the customer service area at the entrance of the store. I imagine that it would be similar in the other stores.
Has anyone received a great deal on furniture as a result of using their IKEA Family card?
I currently see a " 15% off all summer furniture " offer - that sounds pretty good! Is this sort of perk the norm? I would've expected something less flexible, like "30% off this one particular side table", which is great... provided you wanted that particular table.
I like free coffee, so I'll certainly apply for this instant free card regardless!
Success stories, please!
Free coffee is Monday to Friday only. Do they have family cards in Canada?
No, at least not that I know of/can see anywhere.
There is an IKEA credit card. Credit card holders tend to get special deals (i.e. 20% of all kitchen installations or something like this).
There are also "Wacky Wednesdays". On Wednesdays, each store offers a huge discount (like 50-70% off) one particular item. I've never seen an item I wanted or needed, sadly.
And twice a year there is the rather confusingly-named "IKEA Annual Sale". It generally happens after Christmas, and then at some point in the summer.
Despite all the products being identical at ikea.ca and ikea.ch, it seems as if the offers are quite different!
I think all I wanted to really know was if the IKEA Family Card offers are worth waiting for (i.e. sleeping on a camping mat and waiting 3 weeks to buy a bed!).
I don't suppose that info's readily available, but figured I'd chance it all the same!
