Ikea Wardrobe Assembly

I just said to my husband "Darling you are brilliant at what you do, so why not go off and earn 10 times more, quit buying tools, quit botching jobs, I love you for who you are" Just pay someone to do it and save yourself the stress!

Just my own experience

I know someone who bought an IKEA kitchen, but had it assembled by a local carpenter. You might want to check out their rates: for example, Handwerkskollektiv , which is a group of carpenters and technicians (?) in Zurich. It came out much cheaper thant IKEA's quote....

We've also used Handwerkskollektiv to build a simple floor to ceiling cupboard to fit our small bathroom, as we couldn't find anything of standard size in the furnitures stores that was suitable. They were efficient, reliable and very reasonably priced.

Just where we are at at the moment. Didn't know I was a kitchen Lass, cant stand the open kitchen cant stand the noise of the extractor fan. Roll on moving that kitchen out of our living area.

All the work is being done by locals that listen to what we want.

Been there, done that. The IKEA delivery+assembly chaps actually managed to get some of the screws in at an angle!!

I can definitely second the use of an electric drill, with the screwdriver and hex key bits. It's cut down assembly times by more than half.

Having a bit of a 'moving' habit, I would suggest the Interio/Pfister wardrobes if you're planning on disassembling and moving the wardrobes at a later stage. The IKEA wardrobes are fine if they're staying in one spot but after 2 moves, they would not have survived a third, hence the 'upgrade' (it's relative) to the Pfister wardrobes.

Given the cost and difficulty of disposing of old furniture we opted for multiple smaller wardrobes of the don't care if it breaks kind. Assembly time 10 minutes each cost from Ikea in Pratteln approx 40 chf.

The added benefit is they do move easily fully assembled and when the get broken they burn very well in the stove.

That said FLY in Basel sold larger versions and the guy's who assembled one I bought in 2002 were both Swiss and did a sterling job. The minor downside was when we moved I realised that the gluing and screwing rendered the thing immovable and I had to saw the thing in half to get it out of the apartment never again
