Import car to Switzerland: e-dec data

Hi all,

I am about to import a vehicle to Switzerland & I have a few questions regarding the e-dec required (as mentioned seen on " Experience of importing a used car from Germany to Switzerland without a Dealer Experience of importing a used car from Germany to Switzerland without a Dealer ").

The vehicle is the following: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

2-T Kasten

901, 902

211 CDI

Diesel

UID

UID is required for the "recipient" details.

UID is an identifier for companies. And I am a private individual, not a company. So what to do ?

Update: it then prompted me in the error message "Les particuliers peuvent utiliser le pseudo-IDE CHE222259895 (e-dec standard) ou CHE222251936 (e-dec Web).". So I will use either of these codes.

Marchandise code:

Tares has so many codes I am not sure which one to use.

I will "try" to use 8703.3260 because the vehicle has:

- a diesel engine

- engine of 2148ccm

- weights 2'800kg

But again, I'm not 100% this is the correct code to use. Anyone who could point a mistake is welcome to help.

Documents/Certificates presented

Again, not sure what I am supposed to select.

The form allows me to skip this step though, so hopefully I'm fine without this.

Legal acts others than customs

"Actes législatifs autres que douaniers (ALAD)"

After reading their doc, it seems that I should either ALAD 0 or ALAD 2 because a vehicle isn't submitted to an "ALAD".

Again, not sure exactly which to pick, so I will go for an ALAD 0, because it's "without registration" (just coz 'registration' implies I might have to do more paperwork & it annoys me ^^).

I will help best I can.

UID you seem to have figured out. I did the same.

Merchandise code sounds right - they will correct it if you are not right; it impacts the import duty fee.

Documents/Certificates: A Eur1 would be nice, you would bypass the cost of duties. I could not obtain one so not sure how you could get it, if at all.

For ALAD, I believe that is the same as NZE (I am in the German part) and I entered the code of 0 (zero).

If you omit something or do anything wrong then it won't let you submit the online document, and it should alert you to where there is a problem. If it goes through, then great, and even if you entered something wrong they will likely catch it as the form gets reviewed.

Good luck!

I ended up going to the customs to "just try & see".

Obviously, my poor German & beginner knowledge regarding importation didn't make miracles.

I tried to get help from the Swiss customs chaps.

The dialog went like:

- custom chapess: "You first need a paper for the German customs. Once you have them, go there to the German customs & they will put lovely stamps on them. After that, come to the Swiss customs office, we'll take some of your papers & put a couple of lovely stamps on your papers & take a non-negligeable sum of money from you".

- me: "oh... I thought I only needed the e-dec? OK then. Where can I get these first papers"

- custom chapess: "go to the building B, some company will do this for you"

- me: "ok, thank you"

Went to the building, knocked on a few doors, got told "too busy sorry" by 4 different agencies before one said yes. They told me they'd do the relevant docs in 20-30min & charge me 80chf for it. So I did it.

Then went to German custom, got the vehicle very quickly checked. Mostly wanted to double check the chassis number (Herstellernummer). Got lovely stamps on papers.

Finally went to Swiss custom, got the vehicle very quickly checked. Mostly wanted to double check the chassis number (Herstellernummer), again. Got lovely stamps on papers. And paid lovely lump sum for importing vehicle.

Done.

Nope.

You only got 13.20 form.

Which you need to forward to Co2 tax office, pay lovely sum (or not).

Long is the road, but you're almost there.

13.20 form is what you give to cantonal vehicle centre to get the vehicle checked and issued with Swiss license plates.

CO2 tax is only applicable to new cars, it does NOT apply to cars that have already been first registered (in any country) for more then 6 months.

The cantonal vehicle centre will levy the CO2 tax should it be receivable

true, I assumed it was a new car, but maybe not the case.

My bad. So no stamp on 13.20 if the car is not new, next step, Vehicle Centre.

I was lucky I got help. If not, I would have paid someone to do the paperwork.

hey hi, this info might be a little late for you guys, but it might help others in future.

I found a really good ebook about how to import a car into switzerland on www.auto-selbst-import.ch/english . Actually it describes step by step how to fill out the swiss e-dec online customs. for 9 CHF this ebook is really worth its money.

I hope this helps!
