For the past week I have been trying to buy an easyJet Plus card on the eJ website. Impossible. After filling in all my details, including selecting "Switzerland" as my country, when I get to the payment stage the country has defaulted to "GB". Have tried three different browsers and three computers; also on an iPhone. Have cleared cookies and set the computer regional setting to Switzerland. Always defaults to GB.
Have called easyJet three times (poor connection to helpdesk in South Africa). Told them there is a serious bug on their site. First two calls: was told I'd be called back... never happened. Third call... was essentially told to keep on trying and one day it will work.
Tried to buy at Geneva airport: they aren't sold there and the guy couldn't help.
Now booking a whole string of flights without the benefit of the card.
I had a similar issue when I tried to use a US credit card and switch my billing address to a US address. It asked me to enter my state but there was no field available to enter.
I then switched to my UBS card and the verification by VISA process was a damn nightmare.
Really surprising, because I think their app is one of the best airline travel tools that I use. (mostly BA, United, Lufthansa/Swiss (terrible), Delta).
Thanks, drkarthiks, but did you go right through to the very end of the procedure, where you actually try to pay? Because that's the point at which "Switzerland" changes to "GB", and at this stage it can no longer be changed. Clicking to pay then brings up a message saying that the transaction can't be completed, and this must be because the wrong country is showing. And yes, I choose "Suisse" and "CHF" before filling anything in.
And thanks, VFR on top. I agree that the site is otherwise brilliant. When I spoke to the helpline, I suggested that if the bug was on their main booking page they would have it sorted in five minutes. I've had nothing but praise for eJ since they first started operating, but this has really dented my good feeling for them.
Yes, it's maybe worth buying a 20 franc flight just to get the card. But how crazy, to be telling them about a bug that is stopping the cash coming in, and they seem not to care about it.
Yes, drkarthiks... I get that far as well, but when I put in my security code for the credit card and select "Pay", the next page shows the payment as refused. And that is because, after filling in all my details with Switzerland as the billing country and - importantly - "000" as the postcode for the billing country, the next page, summarising all the details (and unchangeable), has "GB" as the billing country. It has now been driving me mad for a week, including three phone conversations with eJ, none of which has produced any feedback.
Thanks, Frank2k. No, not using any VPN connection, but have had someone in the UK try to buy the card on my behalf. They have the same issue: "Switzerland" changes to "GB" at the payment stage, and payment is impossible.
I have tried on four different computers (including a Mac), on an iPhone and on an iPad. Same issue every time. I have also cleared my cache and made sure that Switzerland is selected in the computer's regional settings.
They have a bug in the system, and they WILL NOT LISTEN.
I finally gave up with easyJet and sent a message to SagePay, the payment handling company whose name appears on the payment page. They wrote back almost immediately and told me they couldn't deal with individual customers and that I had to keep trying with easyJet. BUT, less than an hour later the payment site unblocked and I was able to obtain the card. So I'm pretty sure they sorted it. It probably required no more than a tiny tweak of the page code.
Although I'm glad to have the card, this past week has shown me just how difficult (i.e. impossible) it is to get any response from eJ, even when one is pointing out a serious error on their website. Not good, and I may still write to the CEO (registered mail, which may even help).
