Has anyone seen them about or know where to get them?
Otherwise the next step will be ordering from the US.

First of all: Sounds like a party!
Second: I dont think you will find non-dual ones in Europe.
Do you need the sturdier 3/5/10 yard metal type tape, or would a tailor’s tape suffice?
I’ve ordered tailor’s tape - coated fabric, 60 inches long, from Amazon UK

Likely also from Amazon Germany, but perhaps from a third party supplier.
(Yeah, I’m lazy - my ‘muscle memory’ is stuck in the measurement used when I first learned to sew…)
A tailor’s tape is not rigid. Some come in a plastic housing that has a stop and retracts, though.
If you need the larger retractable metal tape, ordering from the US or Asia is probably your best bet.
Works most of the time, and if not received in 15 days, you get a full refund (which means you can get stuff for free quite often when it's delayed at Swiss customs)
Thanks, I'll be needing both longer and sturdier. I'll need to rivet a fitting to the end to fit to a certain datum point.
Some industries still use inches for certain standard spacings. With a variable Position installations, it would be handy to give whole inch measurements instead of mm, 219" looks nicer than 5562.6mm.
I'm in the UK next week, so I don't think I can wait for the Tories.... I'll just grab a bunch of inch/cm tapes.

Thats a dual one. I think what Ato is trying is to make sure his colleagues cant mess up by using the wrong side… NASA style: https://www.simscale.com/blog/nasa-m…rbiter-metric/
You can buy retractable tailor’s tape measures which only have inches printed on one side of them and have a rivet in one end. They’re softer than the regular builder’s metallic tapes though.
This kind of thing
