Dear All,
I want to know the equivalency of Chartered Account (common wealth countries - India) to Swiss system.
If someone is qualified as a CA in common wealth countries, how to go about to get the equivalency in the Swiss system ? Any websites or organizations relevant to it that gives information ?
If someone has taken that route - would you mind sharing your journey ?
Cheers,
kewlswiss
Since BREXIT the only Chartered Accountant qualification that is fully recognised is the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and in addition you must be a citizen of the EU/EEA/CH or if you are a member of the English or Scottish institutes have obtained Irish equivalency before the BREXIT referendum and be resident within the EU/EEA/CH.
In addition one needs to pass a multi choice exam in Swiss law, taxation and company law. The exam is available in English.
I suggest you contact the Indian institute directly to seen if they have made or are in the process of make an agreement with the Swiss association.
Of course this does not stop you from working in industry or working in the offices of a public accountant, you would just have no authority to sign or submit documents on your own behalf. That assumes you have the correct work permits.
The RAB (Federal Audit Oversight Authority or FAOA) recognises foreign qualifications based on reciprocity. Switzerland has contractual reciprocity with EU and EEA countries. They have to recognise each other’s qualifications.
But the RAB also recognises qualifications of other countries as long as these countries also recognise Swiss qualifications. They do list India as a country with factual reciprocity on their website https://www.rab-asr.ch/#64 . Unfortunately, the information is not provided in English.
So you may want to contact them to confirm. If they do recognise the Indian CA then you just have to do the law exam. There is a preparation course.
There may (and I am not convinced these are significant) be benefits in terms of signalling your willingness to learn and integrate to potential employers in industry but you don’t have to be a Swiss ‘licensed audit expert’ unless you plan to sign audit reports here.
And on preview, recognition as audit expert is indeed not the same as being a Swiss CPA. It is a practicing certificate.
