Inexpensive wines at Coop, Denner etc.

here the low-price one (CHF 3.20)

-

and here the more expensive one

These are the two wines from Coop which we drink and serve regularly. They are organic and have pretty labels!

They also make a lovely Pinot Noir of which you can find a picture on Coop.

I've had those ladybird ones - and the lizard one - though not all in the same glass

Can I have a case of that second one - as its under 10chf would be a shame not to... I'll give you the 120chf when you bring it round

-

oooops, so sorry, but the second one is, depending on trader, between CHF 30.- and CHF 50.-- per bottle !

My brother once, on a visit to Château Meursault, purchased three cases of that stuff, but, while chatting endlessly with the manager there, forgot to arrange anything about the transport home. And so I took charge of the matter, arranged a pick-up there out of Geneva, had it taken to the bonded warehouse in Geneva, customs clearance there and then Cargo Domizil to the home of my brother. Luckily enough he managed to consume, with hearty support from my sister-in-law and me, to conquer most of that wine before his premature death. The last three or four bottles however got stolen when somebody did a break-in into the cellar, shortly after he had passed away.

-

but here is a wine at CHF 5.90, the Côte de Ventoux, a truly excellent wine, highly to be recommended

-

for CHF 5.60, you can enjoy this one from the Romandie, a nice Gamay in a one litre bottle

-

or for CHF 4.30, this nice Côte du Rhône, also in a one litre bottle

Any good South African wines in Switzerland?

-

here just the South African Red wines at Coop

lots more in other places. To me, "wine-wise", South Africa is a bit "the France on the Cape", which you ought to take as a compliment but which market-wise may be a bit of a disadvantage in a neighbour country to France. But, the South African wines available here around are many, and you should find some which please you.

can anyone recommend good wine for about 30-35 chf, preferably an american one

red or white? Hess does some lovely wines from the US that are available at Mövenpick in Zug.

Off topic! I'm far from being an expert in American wines but there are several kinds of wines from Fetzer available at Coop. Currently in the price range of 11.90-25.50 Fr. So far I've always been satisfied with their wines.

My favourite red from Coop under 10.- is Naturally Australian.

white, pl let me know some names

I just yesterday, at Coop, purchased, for about CHF 9.--, a bottle of Californian Chardonnay from the "Round Hill Vineyards. And the Round Hill Chardonnay are truly excellent.

Bump Bump, not much time left, its a gift thats why I want something between 25-35 CHF

I just bought 2 cases of decent red wine from the Denner on sale for half-price. They were 30chf/case--which makes it only 5chf/bottle.

Argentina Malbec -- Argento Reserva 2008 from Mendoza

Australia Shiraz-- Tyrell's Wine Moore's Creek Shiraz.

I opened the Malbec and found to be very drinkable...

Janie, the Argento is a gem. Good, balanced malbecs are difficult to find and the Argento is a winner. It's the only good wine find I've ever made in CH.

Robert Parker rates the Denner Peñascal Tempranillo Shiraz 86 points, and it only costs CHF5.50 a bottle.

Suck it and see.

Happy shopping.

Meh, I failed to make this rating meaningful:

" 80-89 is equivalent to a B in school and such a wine, particularly in the 85-89 range, is very, very good; many of the wines that fall into this range often are great values as well. I have many of these wines in my personal collection. Certainly, wines rated above 85 are very good to excellent, and any wine rated 90 or above will be outstanding for its particular type."

I'm no Robert Parker fan, but we're talking CHF5.50 here
