Inexpensive wines at Coop, Denner etc.

There is a another Spanish "Robert Parker 86" (so the sticker says) at Denner for chf 8.95. Was good enough to buy a carton.

First of all, as Spanish and Majorcan and due to I've worked some years in a cellar making the best Majorcan wine and principally the cheapest in its category (Aia, from Vinyes i bodegues Miquel Oliver, cellar's price about 12 euros, peñin rate: some years more than 90 points) I love Spanish wines (some Majorca, Ribera del Duero, ...), but I consider that there are no reason for a wine to cost more than 15 euros (maybe the very old ones, because the waste a lot of years in the cellar). Nevertheless, the ones I can buy in Switzerland aren't the best ones nor my favourites. I know that some of them will be at the Wine fare in Zürich.

Well, I've also researching about wine in Zürich and definetely the best place to buy it is in Denner:

this afternoon I've gone to Letzipark and I've found a wine fare in the fist floor hall (between Coop and Denner). I've tasted some wines (at 0 CHF) and finally I've bought two boxes (6 bottle each one) of one of the cheapests but very good:

Argentina ARGENTO Reserva 2008 Malbec

Argentina ARGENTO Reserva 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon

Really they taste great and the price... They are at half-price (normal price 10 CHF) and an additional 20% discount, so I've bought it at 23.90 CHF each box, 3.98 CHF each bottle .

They are not may Majorcan wines, but I think I could be very well here in Zürich!

Miquel, any idea how much longer that price is in effect? I'm going to collect every bottle of the malbec in Vaud if it remains on sale.

Hi richardm, the Denner's web page say that it depends on the shop (and I don't see Vaud, but I'm not sure it may be said with another name):

I hope I have helped all of you.

PS: richardm, please don't collect ALL the bottles that I need someones more!

All this wine nonsense! You get all these wine people, don't you? Wine this, wine that. Let's have a bit of red, let's have a bit of white. Ooh, that's a snazzy bouquet. Oh, this smells of, I don't know, basil. Sometimes you just want to say, sod all this wine, just give me a pint of, mineral water.

Are you looking for a good wine for a special day?

This afternoon I've gone to Denner and I've bought a bottle of "Marques de Murrieta" from Igay for less than 18 CHF. I knew it and it's perfect. Is not the more expensive of the cellar, but the prize is very accurate.

Taste it!!!

Look for a non special wine on a non special day and go to Coop. Where you can buy, for CHF 3.20 a nice good Tunisian Royal Kadir (one liter) or for CHF 3.15 an even better Jumilla Alta Sierra (also one liter) . Both wines are really good. And this at such a sensational price.

thanks...always looking for a good daily drinker.

Trust me at 18 Fr. there are a lot of great bottles of wine at that price but I'm glad you found a wine that you enjoyed.

The best wine is the one YOU like, not what the wine critics tell you you should like ! A Chateau Whatever maybe 99 Parker points out of 100, but if you've not got the same taste or looking for same thing as Mr Parker it's a little irrelevant or your what is known as a "label drinker"

I was only trying to recommend you a wine that for me is excellent and not very expensive. Really there are a lot of good wines at 18 CHF, but there are far too many more that are not really good at 18 CHF and more.

I don't know how many points this wine has in any list, but for me is really good.

I own a wine store in Luzern and get to try a lot of wine at this price point and there are lots that deliver great value for money but as you point out there are many that don't. As the previous post said, the best wine is the one that you like.

What you may find is that reputable wine merchants will separate the good from the bad for you and will reduce chances of picking up a bad wine. The first question I always ask when recommending a wine is what the customer has had previously that they liked... From that I can gauge their tastes.

Choosing wine doesn't have to be a lottery and I am sincerely happy that you found a good one.

It's irrelevant how many points somebody else has given the wine, it what you like to drink that counts. Parker may giove 100 points for a wine as it's full of raspberry flavour, biut if yopu don't like raspberries....who cares how many points it has ?

I've seen yous stock of Spanish wines and is not bad (I don't know all of them, but for instance "Mantel Blanco" is good and the ones from Albali are also good and really a good prizes. CONGRATUALTIONS. If you would like to improve your stock with some wines from Mallorca (or other regions), let me know and I could put you in touch with some wine-productors. I've work a couple of years in a cellar during the harvesting.

I agree completely with you.

Yes, it doesn't have to, by that reason I've offered my opinion about one good wine, because I'm sure that not all people know how to select a good one.

OK, my wine of the month at Denner. Rigal "The Original" Malbec on special at chf5.95. Just rolls around the mouth so nicely. I've cleaned out what was left at my local
