Infant's Thumb Impression

Hi guys,

Any tips on how to get a newborn's thumb impression on the application form for the Indian passport?

We have tried several times using a whiteboard marker with very blotchy and hazy results. How strict is the Indian embassy about this?

Look forward to your suggestions.

Get (or borrow) an inkpad for stamping. You should be able to pick one up at a stationer's or post office.

Or simply buy one about anywhere! I'm pretty sure even Migros and coop have them. There's even several toy boxes with inkpads and funny stamps for kids to play.

Make sure you wash it well afterwards - we all know where kiddies thumbs end up.

I am not sure that office ink will be thick enough to make a good impression, you need to show the very fine lines: with thin ink the lines will merge together. I think you should ask your embassy for tips, maybe they can help you.

kill someone and put the gun in your baby's hand. Call the police. They'll do the prints for you.

I'm almost tempted to 'thank' that. Such a nasty image.

OP, hope you manage to find an answer, asking the embassy seems the best solution.

We used an inkpad (baby safe and easily washed off) for our baby and it was accepted by the VFS. Make sure you do 2-3test runs on a paper before you do on the final form. Please do see the website for which color to use i think it is blue as they are sometimes finicky about that, red ofcourse is a big no no and i am not sure about black. Best to do it when the baby is asleep and wont curl up their fingers in a fist when you try.
