Morning all. Was just about to install a number of insect hotels, and suddenly wondered if this is such a good idea, given I live in a timber clad, wood framed house....might I be attracted the wrong kind of pesties that would decide to chomp away like happy little wood worms?
Haven't been able to find anything on the 'net and certainly nothing in all the sites selling the "hotels".
I got 5 of them, they are primarily for wild bees that are not building a hive and live solitarily, such as the 'Rote Mauerbiene', Schlupfwespe(which is NOT a wasp per se) and many of those critters are on the red list, due to the environment not being apt for them anymore.
Fear not, you'll attract the 'good' insects and they'll also help pollinating your garden , earwigs mit also peruse them. They love aphids!
You could also place small dishes with pebbles and water for insects out in your garden. I've overall 5 such dishes outside ..... you'll help hedgehogs , birds and all kind of insects especially when there's a drought.
