Insurance when???

MG is resident and has been since March, and she has her health insurance here, but I don't as I still float between here and France so I'm covered by my NIHC/Carte Vitale. I have now applied for my permit here, so when do I have to have my Swiss health insurance in place.

MG did hers from a woman in Zug (CSS I think) who spoke little English but seem to have a link to J&J, and that seemed the most painless route for her.(i.e she never really shopped around). So can anyone suggest a broker/agent in the Zug/Affoltern a A area who they could recommend, who speaks English.

Thanks in advance

PG

You just need Basic insurance or "Basis" in German. The all cover the same thing, although some give you some extras. Comparis.ch can tell you the prices for your age and Kanton, but they only list those that pay them money, so there could be better deals out there. You pay the whole month, regardless of when you join and you need accident inssurance as well or "mit Unfall" in German.

From what I remember, CSS was around CHF 200-300 per year more for me than San San. I switched our family from Progres to San San this year and saved around CHF 600 for the Basic insurance.

Thanks for that Marie, I think MG is chf 205 pm with CSS, but when do I have to apply for it as I'm here now more than France..... before or after my permit application?

You need insurance from the date you put in the permit application as the date you entered Switzerland. Look for the "Einreisedatum". The Geminde ask you to provide proof of insurance from that date.

BTW: My other half pays CHF 108 with San San with CHF 2500 franchaise. I pay around CHF 200 with CHf 300 franchaise.

Thanks again, where is the San San office in Zug, and do they speak the dreaded English.

They are in Baarerstrasse 47 or 57 in the same premises as Helsana. On the right hand side as you drive from Zug to Baar. Sorry, I don't know if they speak English.

On their website it says you can call them to speak to someone in English on http://www.sansan.ch/en/

Over the year I've had dealings several insurance companies and I've yet to meet one that could not speak English - and that included one small company that only operated in the Kanton of Bern!

I'd suggest you use something like comparis.ch to figure out exactly what you want, then look up the basic terms in German and have a go. All you can do is fail!

Good luck,

Jim.
