[Internet] Nyon area: Swisscom vs Net+

Dear fellow members,

The family is considering a move to the area of Nyon /Prangins /Vich /Duiller /Eysins. From initial search, it seems like there is little choice/competition, namely: Swisscom or (local) Net+.

Anyone using Net+ that can share customer experience first hand? Thank you for any ideas how to secure the high speed connectivity (ideally 100Mbps or more).

P.S. At present we use UPC Cablecom but cannot find information if we can port to the area or not...

In our village Swisscom internet is not available, one of the few in the country. We use net+ which has it's own fibre cable.

We have the "a la folie" option which gives you internet, telephone and TV for a fixed price of 118 per month. Internet speed recently upgraded tp 500mbs.

We have never had a problem and Mrs sems happy with her choice of TV channels, all the UK ones plus ... Very happy.

BTW if you are looking to rent a neighbour has this on offer. https://spark.adobe.com/page/98S4OuHZn5Ud9/ Let me know if you'd like his coordinates, perhaps avoiding commissions?

Swisscom :

Eysins has gone to 100mb (from ~30mb) in the last 3 months or so.

Previously I'd tried a few other compainies and each said 30mb was the max because of a limitation at the exchange. So I guess Swisscom fixed that - so probably eather provider will do 100mb now.

To be honest.. I didn't notice it had changed. 30mb was fine for us running TV, netflix, working from home etc all at the same time.

I live in Nyon itself, not a surrounding village like some here. In Nyon you have the choice of Swisscom, UPC and Net + . For over 15 years Nyon had its own service provider along the big boys, TRN - Téléréseau de la Région Nyonnaise S.A. (the effing italics won't switch off!!) and offered at the time the better reception, pricing, and service to the surrounding region. It was bought by NET + and the same standard has continued without a hick-up it would seem.

I've had both. Prefer Swisscom mainly due to the stability & versatility of the netbox & UI. Both are fine, Net+ is probably cheaper but ultimately might depend on where you will live as fiber optic coverage is not 100% for either at every address.

Thank you, FCBarca; you raised some interesting points which I followed-up.

1) support: I called both companies. Swisscom were transparent, saying max speed is 25Mbps due to old cabling. New FTTH is coming mid-2018 with 1Gbps.

Net+ is segmented to partners who deliver the communes. The designated contact for me is SEIC Gland. I called and spent 15min waiting on hold. The person who eventually answered, checked the address and said "easy, 250Mbps tomorrow if you come and pickup the modem and install yourself; 5 working days if you join online and we ship"...

2)versatility - with Swisscom I can possibly join with mobile and use one of the all-in-one packages; prices are very similar but I would imagine support to be better on Swisscom side, in case of need.

For a moment I thought of taking up the SEIC guy on his offer but it will eventually all back-fire, with only difference that I will be *pissed* and signing with Swisscom vs just signing with Swisscom the first time.

I'll try and get the previous tenant to share experience on his provider next time we meet.

Swisscom is the most expensive and any other providers are so good that you will not need customer service most of the time, but you pay you choose...

Agree, getting things set up was a little tedious. But once it was up and running I've had no need to contact Net+.

They've got an App that allows you to divert your landline to your mobile. Neat trick allowedme to avoid roaming charges while away!

Not sure if you have access to Sunrise in your area, but here in Lausanne (not too far away) the service is great, and the prices are really good. Really fast speeds, and no problems. Additionally, if you bundle with TV and/or mobile and/or landline, the prices are super good.
